The Gretna Hawks won convincingly over the 2014 Magna Vista Warriors. You the fans of 3A/Division 3 have voted the 2003 Gretna Hawks the best of the 30 state champions in 3A since 1986.

The first of back-to-back championships for Gretna, the Hawks that season were 14-0 and their offense was near unstoppable. Only Graham who they Hawks faced in the State Semifinals were able to hold them to less than 35 points, that being 34. Equally impressive was the fact that their defense allowed only three teams to score double digits, two of those games came in the playoffs. That season the Hawks outscored their opponents 694 to 109. Impressive to say the least. That season culminated in a 48-18 championship over Monticello.

13 years later, the 2003 Gretna Hawks are at the top again, voted the best 3A team since 1986.

I know Gretna is 2A now, but I was curious about what's going on with them? Have they hit a rough patch that will be resolved soon or are they in for a long stretch of poor seasons? Any Hawk fans out there care to shed some light or speculate what's going on with one of the most successful teams in the "vhsl-reference" era. ('99-present) Despite their struggles the last 2 years they have 163 wins in 16 seasons. (10 a year) with 5 titles (1 every 3 years on avg since '99) The wins total over that course of time still ranks as the 9th most in the state. Any ideas HR6, Hawk fans?
