Still a lot of football left but I would assume if Lafayette wins out the best we could do is the #2 seed again. I don't see your LT team losing again with teams left. Heritage NN on the other hand has some real toughies left - Woodside and Phoebus.

I am not sure, but I believe Devils said if Lafayette won out they would be the #1 seed in their pod. I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.

Lafayette will finish at either 30.2 or 30.4 which will require LT to first win out but secondly get some help from the teams they beat OOD.

How strong is the rest of dinwiddies schedule? If both Louisa and dinwiddie win out who gets the top seed?
That's a good question. Dinwiddie has 2 3A teams left and 2 5A teams left with combined records of 7-16. IMO there is no reason they shouldn't win out. Louisa has 2 3A teams a 4A team and a 5A team left with combined records of 12-12. I think Louisa might outpoint them with their opponents records at the end of the season.

I think you might be right. Now that we are in exclusively district competition, it's a wash each week. Assuming we win out, when one district team wins, the other one gets the loss. All we can hope for is that our three OOD opponents get wins. James Monroe is doing good. Caroline has that one win, but may only get one more. Hanover is killing us this year. One win, and possibly only one more. Louisa can help by slipping up for one game, we wouldn't complain!

I found a mistake on 19-20. It should be:

Louisa 29
Dinwiddie 29
Eastern View 27
Monacan 26.1
Powhatan 25
King George 24.3
Chancellor 24.16
Courtland 19.83

Sounds like that would be interesting. My money would be on the guy that only takes 9 steps!

From the Handbook:

(a) The Rating Scale-Considering all regular season games played against public and non-public Virginia schools and scheduled in accordance with the provisions of 68-4-6.

(b) The winner of any games between the two tied teams if only the tied teams are involved. If more than two teams tied, and one of the tied teams beat all other tied teams, that team shall advance.

(c) The team with the better record against all common opponents.

(d) A team that played an opponent with an effective nine (9) game schedule (non-recognized opponent, i.e., home school or out-of-state non-public school, or inability to schedule/play a 10th game) shall be seeded ahead of a school whose opponents play 10 game schedules.

(e) Schools that played an opponent with nine-game schedules shall be seeded ahead of opponents who played 10-game schedules.

(f) The team with the highest winning percentage against rating scale- recognized opponents.

(g) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's opponents.

(h) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's VHSL public and VHSL non-public school opponents.

(i) The regional chairman, or his/her alternate if his/her school is involved, shall draw by lot to determine the playoff representative.

(j) The group chairman or vice chairman if the chairman's school is involved, shall draw by lot to determine the playoff representative. Should both the group chair and vice chair be involved in the tie the group secretary would oversee the process.

Looking at the schedules of Dinwiddie and Louisa. I would think that Dinwiddie had a much tougher schedule but I guess when you look at the records of the teams Dinwiddie beat, even though they scheduled some typical powers... it just didn't turn out that way this year. Hopewell, Hanover, Motoaca, & Meadowbrook. Tough when you go out of your way to play a tough schedule and those same teams lay an egg. When I look at Louisa schedule, I am not that familiar with the teams on it but I'm not sure they really have one quality test. Louisa certainly is rolling though regardless. Looking forward to the 4A playoffs in a few weeks!

Dinwiddie's schedule is traditionally very strong, especially last year. Hanover was a buzz-saw for everyone in 4A (except LT, because of match-ups) due to their tempo, line and QB. But this particular year, Sherando and King George are better than everyone on Dinwiddie's schedule except Dale and maybe Meadowbrook. KG will be a tough first-round draw for anyone. That does not mean Dinwiddie isn't an awesome team, so please no one get offended by my opinion and word of mouth. Louisa/Dinwiddie would be a very fun game, especially because of both teams' special teams issues, haha.

Is Maxpreps correct that Heritage NN plays John Champe, Woodside and Phoebus to close out the schedule? Has to the toughest 2nd half of anyone.

I saw the pheobus vs bethel game.. 1 of my friends son is one of the tailbacks for pheobus. I honestly think Pheobus would be a 5-5 to 6-4 team in the dominion district and the district with meadowbrook , TD etc. Pheobus will be fine in the 3A division

As for Woodside I would take a good 5 5A teams out of the central region over them at this point.

I honestly think the central region is the stongest again this year in D5.

I can tell you Heritage NN is going to be a tough out in 4A though... they have athletes all over the place and play with an attitude.

4A might be the exception to my sumation at the top.. laf, LT, & HNN are gonna be great games against the central top 3 4A's of din, Louisa, Mon

Sherando, King George and Powhatan are all quality that the lions beat, two of those games being on the road. So I don't think Louisa has had a cupcake schedule

Honestly I don't think Powhatan can really make some noise come playoff time, but they're a team to watch. Have to go at Charlottesville this week and they still have Albemarle, but if they finish 9-1 they could get some home games in the playoffs and you never know

Powhatan's starting QB will return in a couple of weeks which will no doubt provide a spark but this team will need to stay healthy in order to be competitive the rest of the season.

Hope he's healing fine. Tell him to sit this one out friday though, he can tear it up the rest of the way. You making the trip up to the Ville Friday? If so, let me know, so I can put a name to a face.

What's up with Powhatan's lack of player turnout these last few years? With their history, coaching, and school size, they should average over 50 players on the roster. Now they have even fewer than Charlottesville. I find it funny/ironic and disappointing at the same time. Is it all the injuries, or something else?

Not a lot of athletes playing multiple sports. For instance there are one or two baseball players that play football which is rediculous because football is one of the only sports that actually builds character and I know many of the players that leave the middle school could do very well on the gridiron. The mindset is that once you get in high school you should dial in on one sport and that itself is hurting all athletic numbers. Football being the largest team sport suffers the most. The fear of injury may also have something to do with it along with the addition to Lacrosse which has gained popularity. I will be at PHS for the JV game Wed but going to Cville will be a game time decision. Should figure it out by Friday a.m. and Ill let you know.

Playing multiple sports (different sports) also helps lesson injuries and actually helps athletes perform better...if you listen to trainers and higher echelon coaches.

Cville's QB, Sam Neale, starts for 3 different sports, football basketball and lacrosse. Big role model for the athletes over here ar CHS.
