Interestingly that as I type this Bird, Hermitage and Highland Springs have taken over on CalPreps.com as the top three teams in the state. I also think CalPreps is missing the boat on Tuscarora.
I don't necessarily agree that Ocean Lakes should not be among these three teams (or above them), but I do find overwhelming evidence this year that 5A is just tougher than 6A statewide. I really don't know any 6A teams, after Ocean Lakes, I would really expect to beat the best 7 or 8 teams in 5A.
The 5A playoffs in the Richmond area are going to be incredibly loaded. Atlee had better be glad they jumped ship (so they can just make the playoffs--much less have a shot at a win or two). It looks like Hermitage and Highland Springs are on a collision course in round two. It's a shame one of them will not be in the final 8. I don't think the 1 seed (almost certainly Bird) has any easy path, either. Meadowbrook just handled Thomas Dale. The Monarchs could be Bird's first game and they're not the same team Bird played at the start of the season. We've also got a 8-0 team heading for a 4 seed, so good luck to the Skyhawks.
Down in the 757 Hampton is looking formidable. The crowd of 7-1 and 6-2 teams in 5A down there is pretty loaded.
Tuscarora is looking awfully mighty right now. It's hard to see anyone stopping them, but the Commonwealth has it's usual two monster schools ready to go.
5A has just become the most exciting classification in the state. I think people write it off because Bird won the last three titles (one of those in division 6), but Bird had to win some wars to get those titles, and the Skyhawks are not inevitable, by any means.
