A football forfeiture is actually recorded as a 1-0 result
Guess you knew some insider info the rest of the 2A wasn’t privy. Still pretty classy of Appomattox to take forfeit when it wasn’t their fault the game was canceled.
Small matter of course but it is odd that it would be 1-0 when it is not mathematically possible to end up with just one point in any level of football. In baseball and basketball a 1-0 forfeit score would make sense, but for football it would be more logical if it were a consistent 2-0 across the board.
Update: Appomattox AD Tim Peterson and Lord Botetourt AD Tim Fulton mutually agreed that the game would be recorded as a 2-0 forfeit win for the Cavaliers and a forfeit loss for the Raiders. Director of Communications Matt McCall confirmed that the VHSL was then notified of the forfeiture.Whether it is 1-0 or 2-0, I still don't think it is a fair outcome as determined by the VHSL.
Still impossible to have a 1-0 game. The example you mentioned includes an extra point, implying there was a touchdown scored. It actually is, it's called a one point safety. Has happened in college on a rare and wacky occasion (like, say, a crazy Fiesta Bowl). Block the XP attempt, blocking team recovers in EZ and is tackled there before they can leave.
Not actually sure the rule exists in HS, however, since blocked XPs are ruled dead instantly.
