To my knowledge, this is the first time these two teams have met. It's definitely not the matchup that anyone predicted at the beginning of the season or even at the beginning of the playoffs for that matter. Both teams are definitely battle tested. Auburn played in a tournament in Orlando in December, plus they played several 3A and 4A schools plus they had 4 matchups with Fort Chiswell. W&L played Massaponax twice, Woodbridge, King George, plus their 4 meetings with Lancaster. This really is a difficult matchup to project. I look for Auburn to put the younger Millirons on Brandon Washington and more than likely Ethan Millirons on Vaughn Harris. Both Washington and Harris were all Region 1st team and combined for 31 against Lancaster, with Harris having 18. Auburn does seem to be the better shooting team with multiple guys who can knock down the three ball. W&L has the advantage in athleticism and will need to be able to attack the paint. Auburn has been extremely stingy on defense, especially lately. They held Eastside to 30 points and Twin Springs to 39. Most impressive about the TS game was they held Lane and Owens, the two star TS players to a combined 9 points. Both came in averaging about 18 apiece. W&L will also have to crash the boards as Auburn dominated the interior against TS with big man Bryce Gill. Prediction: Will W&L be able to fully get up after such an emotional game and win over Lancaster. Can Harris and Washington bring another state title to the Northern Neck. Will Ethan Millirons and Auburn finally get to finish what they started 2 years ago when their championship game was canceled only hours before tip-off? My heart says W&L, but my gut says Auburn.
