The regular season is about a third over for most teams and things are getting interesting! by now you can start getting some reads on the district teams who is getting better or some declining. here we go after week three.
# 1 COURTLAND 2 and 1 : the cougars are still the best team in the district thus far. after that devastating loss to Ponax they sleep walked for three quarters and mustered a good drive in the fourth qtr to beat the bears. well the offense woke up Friday night and mauled Louisa 50 to 24! this years team has a good passing attack lead by qb Chet Wellborn and receivers Grant, Green and probably the best receiver in the district Jabari Allen. just like last year the running trio of Cheetham, Green and Lawson are well on their way to thousand yard seasons for all three. their defense last night gave up quite a bit of points and nearly 300 yards rushing to a young Louisa backfield lead by sophomore Job Whalen who ran for 189 yrds on the cougar defense. the cougars have as good of offense as anyone in the state but will go only as far as their defense takes them! Courtland is a good football team!
#2 James Monroe 2 and 1 : how can you look at JM against Osborn park last night and figure out how good they are! 71 to 0 ? saw it on TV like I always do and JM did anything they wanted to on a small OP team that looked like JV players. the only good thing about the jackets in a game like this was Serbay subed early and often. gets some kids PT that will be helpful.NO DON'T GO THERE SERBAY DID NOT RUN THE SCORE UP ON OP! Saw the whole game on TV!. they are right on the heels of Courtland and other than a good Dinwiddie team its hard to see how good their defense is! imo it looks like they are getting better on defense and their offense can score on anyone. their defense will be tested as they play a good Petersburg team that gave them fits last year! going to be a cliff hanger when they play Courtland later on this year!
# 3 CHANCELLOR 2 and 1 : yep after that big win last night when the chargers beat a good Eastern View team I got to feel they are worthy of # 3. they didn't fair well against Ponax last week but who does? the greatest qb in Chancellor history showed why he is and will be by throwing for 250 yards and 3 td's. Wisdom is coming along as he had his second good game by rushing for over 100 yds two weeks in a row! like last week it looks like their downfall right now is their defense as they gave up over 300 total yards. looks like the chargers are on the move and if Oliver can straighten out his defense they may give Courtland and JM a challenge!
# 4 KING GEORGE 1 and 2: got to drop the foxes after their lop sided loss to Liberty ! most people I talked to say Liberty is not as good as the past Liberty teams and they was dominated by Liberty! looks like now their defense may be starting to crack. their offense is still pretty potent and I should know more about them this week when they play Louisa a team that is laying for them after the refs gave KG three tries at a game winning field goal on penalties!
# 5 SPOTSYLVANIA 1 and 2 :Spotsy had a chance to win another game but just fell short! they lost to a team I thought they could beat but I have to be patient with a team that has little speed and talent.I really believe coach Johnson is doing the best he can for what he has got! Michael Shelton is a good fullback in the wing t and they will build around him. still have a chance against Orange this week and a better chance against Caroline and W@ L. the highlight of this year for me when CVTV does their game on homecoming at Spotsy as the knights haven't been on tv since 1999! it will be a pleasure for me to be doing that game along with Tim Coleman and Mike Nevell in a few weeks! carry on SHS I am proud of yall!
# 6 CAROLINE 0 and 6: looks like the cavs are starting to show some offense but their defense can't stop anyone! looks like their only shot at a win is Spotsy! be patient Caroline fans. you got the best man in coach Yeates for the person to turn around a very bad program that was no fault of the players!
there you go only a slight change in the standings! right now Courtland and Chancellor are above the rest but Chancellor is closing in on the top two! KG is slightly below Chancellor but its early and things can and will change! get out and support high school football!
