Re: 2011 Centreville vs Westfield Northern Region Final Football Highlights

The 2011 game was a classic won by Centreville 27-24 when Connor Coward blocked a Westfield FG attempt with a minute left in the game.

Huge turnouts by both student bodies stands in contrast to the small Centreville student section at Saturday's semifinal. These two teams certainly have a storied rivalry.

2011 Centreville vs Westfield Regional Final Video

Centreville and Westfield kickers of 2011 and 2014 teams

I noticed that the kicker of the 2011 Westfield team was #16 Matthew Delaney. Isn't he the older brother of #55 Brian Delaney on the 2014 Westfield team?

I also noticed that the kicker of the 2011 Centreville team was #9 Jared Rondeau. Isn't he the older brother of #8 Eric Rondeau on the 2014 Centreville team?

Yes, the Westfield kickers are brothers.

Man look at that atmosphere from that 2011 game. I like how you slowed down all the questionable calls too. Great videos as always.

Wonder if the crowd will be that big this Saturday.

Re: Centreville and Westfield kickers of 2011 and 2014 teams

Great atmosphere yes... but I have noticed a decline in both student and parent attendance/participation in the last four years at most Fairfax County football games I've attended. I would be surprised if 2014 matches the crowd or fervor of 2011. Be lucky to have the enthusiasm of 2013.

Re: Centreville and Westfield kickers of 2011 and 2014 teams

Agreed that crowds have declined and rosters are smaller at some schools. Mount Vernon had 22 players dressed when they played Yorktown.

From extensive filming of lacrosse and viewership feedback, I have developed a better approach to slow motion. I now show the play in real time, then crop (zoom) and slow the action in the replay.

Re: Centreville and Westfield kickers of 2011 and 2014 teams

I'll point the blame at the students first. Parents of the players, cheerleaders, and band are always going to be there, but its the students that need to come out in numbers and make some noise for their team. I know its going to be tough for the teams that don't do very well throughout the season to get their fans to come out, but you do expect a lot of support and good turnouts for the teams that do win a lot of games, especially in the playoffs.

The last few years it seems like the students at the former northern region schools have done a good job getting into it, packing the stands with creative & enthusiastic student sections. I was at Centreville for the last two games against Patriot and Battlefield, not a bad turnout by both sides each game, but their was plenty of room left and more noise to be made. Since it is Centreville and Westfield this Saturday for the region championship I'd hope for it to be a better crowd.
