Bishop Ireton put the clamps on Nansemond-Suffolk's high powered running game holding the Saints to one score and running back Perris Jones scored three touchdowns in the Cardinals 27-6 win.

Senior Andy Grogan, Junior Silas Sullivan, and senior Trey Lovisone led the stop unit that almost pitched a shutout. The Cardinals defense did not allow a point until a 31-yard touchdown run by Noah Giles with 10 minutes left in the game.

The Cardinals scored on their first offensive play of the season on a screen pass from Walker Venable to Perris Jones who took it to the house for a 56-yard touchdown. The two hooked up again in the 2nd quarter with Jones turning another screen pass into a 68-yard touchdown reception for a 17-0 lead. Jones finished with four receptions for 133 yards. Venable finished 14 of 27 passing with 258 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones also broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter thanks to some excellent blocking including one from Ryan Verducci.

Kicker David Cooper ended the scoring with his second field goal on the night from 37-yards. He made a 46-yard field goal with 1:56 to go in the 1st quarter.

Nansemond-Suffolk was forced to punt eight times and they had six drives where they had a 4-and-out. Noah Giles, who rushed for 278 yards last week, finished with 108 yards on 26 carries.
