The new Boo Williams Sportsplex will host its first National AAU basketball tournament tomorrow in Hampton, Virginia. Tipoff for the first games start at 6pm, with games scheduled until 1030pm the first day. The marathon schedule will see some teams playing up to six games in 42 hours.

The Sportsplex has already hosted volleyball and basketball tournaments over the past few weeks. The 135,000 square foot facility was christened in March, and has been open for only one month. Boo said everything is ready to go.

"We have a few knick knacks to work out," he said. "But everything is coming along."

The world-class facility is flexible enough to sponsor several different sporting events including track and field, basketball, volleyball, and indoor hockey. Inside, fans will fine eight basketball courts, a multipurpose room, a meeting room, a speed and conditioning room, and a concession stand that sells among other things fried fish sandwiches. The bleachers can seat up to 4000 spectators.

The Boo Williams National, which started in 1982 with only four local teams, has expanded to almost 100 teams per age group from all over the United States. This is the first year the tournament and championship games won't be held at Hampton University. Williams sounded a little saddened. "I'm going to miss playing at Hampton. We may have to find a way to get back there."

Besides the myriad of college coaches that attend every year, the Boo Williams tournament will include tons of media including Rivals.Com basketball recruiting analysts Jerry Meyer and Justin Young.

Schedule of games

Williams will try to win his fifth title with the 17-U team, and returns point guard Kendall Marshall (North Carolina) who was on the tournament winning team that beat the Mean Streets in the championship game last year. Up from the 16-unders BWSL team is 6-foot-7 power forward Marshawn Powell, and 6-foot-8 forward Deshawn Painter.
