Game is for the top spot in the Shenandoah.

pizzzzza, maybe this Lee team is starting to jell. Surprising to me without the practice time this season so far, but good to see. They dominated tonight in all facets against a quality opponent, even though Wilson is sort of young.

Lee's defense was really good, forcing maybe two dozen turnovers, at least 12 in the first half. Team rebounding was good, and the second unit (Napier, Elliston, Simms, Velvin, and Simmons) played well. The starters probably only played around 10 minutes in the first half. Lee struggled a little at the ft line, but did better in the second half.

Vaughan was a complete beast in the third quarter. Monster, 'I'm the man (Waddy like)' slams. There was one where he took a pass off the backboard and hammered it home on the break.

Vaughan 22, Henderson 12, Simms 12 (sophomore g/f probably had a half dozen rebounds too), Pettiford 8, Elliston 8, Castle 7, West 6, Williams 5 led the Leemen. Nice balanced scoring, and Elliston (6'3 forward) did a really good job in the paint defensively and rebounding the ball for the second unit.

It sure sounds like it!

I had said that a few weeks ago about the team chemistry - it just needed time - lot of new players to mix in with the returning players.

I just hope the 3-4 games a week doesn't catch up with them - especially as the post-season approaches.

The depth should help with the 'fresh legs' in upcoming games.

Staunton News Leader Article about the game - Patrick Hite

FISHERSVILLE - In a battle of first-place teams in the Shenandoah District Friday night, Lee High got the convincing 82-44 win over Wilson Memorial.

Jarvis Vaughan's 22 points led the way, while Jalen Henderson scored 12 and Darrion Simms added 10 in the win, as Lee improved to 9-1 in district play and 12-1 overall.

Lee jumped out to a 10-0 lead and was up 13 at the end of a quarter. Turnovers were a problem for Wilson, and Vaughan said that's what his coach, Terrell Mickens, calls the shark attack.

"We use shark as the name because when it's time to eat, sharks get vicious," Mickens said. "We're not vicious in a negative way, but we want the ball. We're ball hungry."

Greg Woodard finished with 13 points for Wilson in the loss. The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for Wilson, which is now 11-5 overall and 8-2 in the district.

Lee has a short turnaround with a Saturday afternoon game against Stonewall Jackson scheduled for a 1:30 start in Staunton.
