A familiar face at the
Virginia Tech games this year is 4-star recruit Zack McCray

from Brookville High School. McCray committed to the Hokies in the summer and he has spent the last few weeks getting acquainted with the campus. "I've been to all of the home games," McCray said. "I can't wait for college to start up. I think football is going to be a blast."

McCray should
have a smooth transition his first day on campus and his first day on the
practice field with former Brookville teammate Logan Thomas there to help
sponsor him around. Thomas is already giving a few hints. "He just told me to be
ready to work hard when I come in because the game is a lot faster and tougher
than high school football."

Last season, the 6-foot-5,
236-pound, McCray recorded 20 sacks on his way to being named 1st team All-State
by VirginiaPreps.Com while helping Brookville to the D3 state championship game.
"Right now I think probably stay at defensive end," McCray said, "but if I get
moved to linebacker then that's cool too..what ever is best for the team."

He's on pace for another
All-State selection. "I'm having a pretty good year," McCray said. "It's a
little bit different because people last year didn't really know who I was or
know what I could do. This year people tend to run away from my side but I still
make quite a few plays. It would be an honor to make the All-state team but its
up to the people who vote on."

Brookville is currently 7-2
and they will earn a playoff spot if they defeat Jefferson Forest on Friday.
Does Brookville have what it takes to make it back to the state championship
game? "I defiantly think we do," McCray said. "We have so many weapons on the
team that it's sometimes hard to get them all on the field at one time. With
some of the things we've been doing recently, I think if we can get on a roll,
there won't be anyone to stop us."

The D3 state championships is
scheduled for December 12th at Lane Stadium on the Virginia Tech campus. McCray
has a rare opportunity to play his final high school game and his first college
game on the same field. "Actually when I heard that the state championship was
at Lane Stadium, it made it even more of a goal to get to the championship. It
would be awesome to play in Lane Stadium in high school but its going to be
absolutely crazy to play there in college with 65,000 fans screaming."

McCray played what is likely his final home game when Brookville beat E.C. Glass 32-0. While the win was gratifying, he admitted he had mixed emotions. "Senior night was better than I could have imagined. The team did great and I had a good game as well. It really didn't hit me until senior night that Friday could've been the last time I'd ever play on that field again. But we have one more regular season game left and hopefully a few more games after that too."
