Not at the game but getting updates from Southampton. Conference Director confirmed that winner of this game will have the #1 seed for the conference tournament. Third round between these two rivals. This is the one-game district tournament for the Tri-Rivers District.

Halftime - Greensville 32-25

Did something change since yesterday? Yep.... now that Tri-Rivers is saying a ONE game regular season playoff is a Tournament... sounds like double dipping...

Don't have a dog in the fight, but sounds like PE is getting shafted.... They will be the #2 see no mater what happens.

Winner is #1 Seed

Was told by director that PE cannot get #1 seed because of district winning percentage. Head to head is lower on the tie-breaking scale

Re: Winner is #1 Seed

Right, only because now the Tri-RIvers Dist has a regular season tie, the tie breaker is now a playoff/tourney game. So the winner of this game becomes the top seed due to reg season champ and (so called) tourney champ.

Things need to be equal and everyone on the same page. As of yesterday this was not the case, as I stated in other posts.

By the way, which school is the Con34 head administrator for the boys side?

Re: Greensville 57-50, .35 left in game

If they hold on, then things played out according to the original plans....

CONFERENCE DIRECTORS SHOULD BE INDEPENDENT

VHSL needs to provide a more definitive set of criteria, without room for districts to use the rules or lack of rules for a competitive advantage. Rules should be in black and white and consistent throughout all the districts.

Judging by Lighthouse 52 previous post, it sounds like the conference director is associated with the Tri-Rivers district. By nature, people have a tendency to look after their own and if left unchecked most will do so.

In fairness, they should be independent, especially if the rules are not definitive. In this case calling a one game playoff, a tournament, to qualify for the requirements of a higher seed is wrong and not in the true spirit of the game or the rules. It guaranteed someone from the Tri-Rivers a Number 1 seed. An independent director would have hopefully called this out for what it was and disallowed it.

By not having planned for and played a real tournament, the Tri-Rivers should have suffered the consequences for not doing so and rewarded the team that did.

You could resolve some of these issues as well by not rewarding the Number 1 seed with a bye and automatic Regional berth. They already benefit by playing the lowest seed and being in the bracket with the lower seeds as opposed to the 2 and 3 seed side of the bracket. With so many subjective issues used to determine the seeding that we know are not very accurate in determining who is a better team, (ala old BCS format) why should anyone get the benefit of an extra nite off and a regional spot guaranteed. They should have to play a first round game like everybody else. The NCAA doesn't have byes for their top 4 seeds. Byes are usually used for events with an unequal number of participants.

VHSL needs to fix this.

Re: CONFERENCE DIRECTORS SHOULD BE INDEPENDENT

Usually when VHSL delegates, someone gets screwed. VHSL needs to set standards for entire state, and not delegate anything.

Re: Winner is #1 Seed

Harold Williams of Brunswick is in charge of the boys.

Ruby Allen of Greensville is in charge of the girls.

Last year it was flip flopped.
