I saw BG in person twice this season and they lost big each time. But then they won almost every other game. So who knows?

They scrimmaged R E Lee in the pre-season, so maybe some Lee fans could shed some light as to how they will stack up to Clarke.

While I have no knowledge of either team this year, I can only say that the single wing is hard to defend if you don't see it often.

Good Luck to Clarke!

Gap has a pretty good defense. They are pretty strong on the DL, secondary, and at the lb positions. They havent given up a whole lot if you take out the Riverheads game. I think their test defensively is how do they handle the size and mobility of the Clarke o line. The Gap D has been put in a lot of tough situations and held their own due to some offensive struggles. Considering the average field position they have had in some games, its a wonder they havent given up more points. The clarke offense vs the gap defense should be a good matchup for about 2-3 quarters, but they will likely tire by the 4th due to being on the field for so long combined with battling clarkes size up front. On to the BG offense vs the Clarke D: this has the potential to be a huge mismatch considering the struggles the bison offense has had in a few games. If Gap can find some of the offense they displayed early, this has the potential to be a ball game, but if the gap offense continues to struggle, Clarke wins easy

Gap is a young team. I am very impressed with what they have done this season and they may just surprise some people again. I would not count Gap out just yet even though they are underdogs. Could be a really interesting game.

I played the VHSL game simulator and it shows Gap had a 58% chance of winning. This is going to be a good game to watch!

I think it will be close, but I have to go with Clarke. I haven't followed the Gap that much since Winchester Cable took away the Harrisonburg Channel. We used to get updates all the time. I know when Pickle Nuckols played for them they were Beasts.

He coaches at BG now. I saw him at the Lee scrimmage. He was a fun player to watch. I saw him make more big conversions in crucial situations than anyone I can recall. Seemed like you always knew where the ball was going in short yardage/two point conversion type situations and you knew it would either be a first down or a successful conversion. Hard nosed, determined runner. They also had the biggest high school kicker I had ever seen and he had a boot on him. He was probably 350 pounds and kicked the ball straight ahead and when it was accurate that thing would sail, but it just never looked right seeing a boy that big kick a ball lol. They had a really good qb and a really good safety/return specialist on that team. That QB was a lefty and he had speed to burn and could sling it. The return/safety player was probably the best athlete on that team and was a really fun one to watch. Electric player.

Michael Johnson if I'm not mistaken. But I could be
Yep thats right! Couldnt remember his name but now that I see it I remember because he was good at track, and I remember seeing him win some events in the paper and finding it interesting due to the US gold medalist-olympian with the same name from years ago

Pickle Nuckols was one heck of a player. Very hard nosed. Also has the best name in the history of football anywhere!!!

I saw Gap play in the 2nd week of the season against Parry McClure, and I have to say they are the most physically tough team I have seen since I moved here from Georgia three years ago. Not the fastest team I've ever seen, but their coaches flat had those boys putting a hat on the ball carrier. That was a beneficial loss for PM. Gave the PM coaches a good snapshot of what they needed to work on, and they haven't come close to losing since.

Very questionable officiating tonight. Clarke must have had about 12 holding penalties called, we've never had that many. Gap offense tackled our defensive guy right in front of the umpire and he didn't call it. Definitely didn't have home field advantage tonight! Oh well, on to Goochland!

Agree with you officiating was not good if not for all the penalties I think Clarke would have scored a lot more

Officiating was suspect no doubt. If Gap had not shot themselves in the foot early on with turnovers and had scored on drives where they moved the ball, the game could have easily gone in another direction. Clarke seemed to lose focus at a point early in the 4th quarter after Gap scored to make it closer, which is something Clarke can ill afford against a strong Goochland team. But Clarke stayed with their game plan and won a tough game. Next week against Goochland should be a hard hitting and quick scoring game, from both teams.

I have a question about one of the plays in the game. Clarke had a 4th down and was trying to convert. They ran the play, and flags were thrown. They called Clarke on a false start, but gave the ball to Gap. I thought a false start on offense resulted in the play being stopped. Is it different in HS?

Are you sure it wasn't an illegal man in motion? It's the same gesture from the ref, and it's a decliniable penalty.

Looked like a motion penalty, and don't think Clarke had enough yards for the first down anyway.
Could have sworn the ref said false start, but don't remember now. I was just confused about the call. I know Clarke didn't have enough yards, but me thinking that it was a false start thought the play was nullified. Thanks for the clarification guys!
