Catch or No Catch you be the judge ( link provided)

unless the guy was juggling the ball (can't see)...the ref is staring right at him but never gives that indication .. the play is over and he signals the score--likely too fast. Taking a step or two and then dropping the ball means nothing. HS is not college and pro with their funky catch rules. It could have counted, unless he didn't have the ball secured BEFORE dropping it (handing it to a ref is a courtesy) Tough break. Blame it on cold hands!

Looks close enough to have gone either way. Certainly confused the referee for a split second. The no catch call was a momentum killer for Clarke.

Hard to see if he had control of it from this distance. The actions of his arms make me think the ball was not fully possessed.

Hard to judge, but I thought it was a catch when I first looked at it. But, again the angle is bad and cant see whether he may have stepped out or not

After watching the video a couple of times, I'd say no catch. Think the ref's got this one right.

That would be my thoughts too. Always hand the ball to the ref when you score.

? Glad ? to see that SW VA isn;t the only place where the playoff refs are catching flack.

Bad calls happen in every game. Get over yourself.

The two plays right before this were QB runs to the right side that gained some good yardage... This looks like the same play (designed QB run) and the snap was bad... he scrambled and the receiver had enough sense to get open after he missed his block... you can debate the catch all you want, but there were several linemen in the end zone, which is more than the two/three yard buffer they are permitted...if you call it a catch, you also have to call illegal men downfield... Late in the season, the same thing happened to Nottoway and the TD was nullified...

Later in the game, the QB/punter faked a punt with EVERY SINGLE linemen downfield, yet that wasn't called.. Instead, the Nottoway player was flagged for pass interference!

Also, what was up with the delay of game penalty called against Nottoway coming out of the half? Players say they came when the ref knocked on their door to the locker room. I understand it is only a five yard penalty, but it didn't allow the players any chance to warm up... I would think this is dangerous, especially during a cold game like that.

OK - I figured it out

Couldn't put my finger on it before. Was taking a break a while ago and all of a sudden, it hit me.

What I see is a basketball player who catches the ball after it goes through the hoop - he just drops/releases it right there.

What I DON'T see is a football player who lost his grip on a TD catch - why isn't he trying to catch the ball before it hits the ground? Because he has scored and he's dropping the ball.

I say catch.

Re: OK - I figured it out

Exactly why players should be coached to always hand the ball to the refs after a catch, particularly one in the endzone. Doing so will always prevent this happening.
