I got to go to this game in person and then rewatch it online. Teams were very very even. Both had good game plans-Spotswood just made about two or three more plays down the stretch than Hopewell and that gave them the win. Hopewell really bothered Spotswood on offense, their zone made it difficult for Pacheco to get much going offensively and Sprague was 1-10 from the field at halftime. Once Sprague hit a couple 3s it really opened things up and Blazers were able to get the ball to their role guys, Parlee had some huge buckets in the 3rd and Langridge is becoming the folk hero of this game, especially when Sprague fouled out. Pacheco had the most Cam Pacheco game ever-a very subtle 23-9-7.
Hopewell just couldn’t make enough jumpers. Spotswood doubled the paint very well and when they would go full court pressure, Hopewell couldn’t beat them down the court. They got out to a 34-26 lead in the 3rd after they made a couple kick outs and missed a fast break 3 that would have put it at 11. I was very impressed with Hopewell given how young they are, and they are absolutely massive. Agreed big dude didn’t have a great game, Spotswood’s trapping gave him issues. Despite that, Hopewell was still almost able to win this one-they will be very very good next year.
Biggest play of the game came from Langridge, he rebounded a Pacheco airball for a put back and one to put Blazers up 6 with I believe less than a minute to go. Spotswood losses all 3 of their leading scorers. They truly had a movie season-played a brutal out of district schedule (losing to Meridian by 15 and Glass twice) before ripping off I believe 21 straight wins to the state title. Their young role players improving exponentially was the biggest reason for that and I attribute that to Coach Edwards and the program. Very happy there were able to get one. I am hoping Hopewell can come back next year and snag a ring themselves, they deserve one.
Siegel Center was a great experience. Glad it was a good game.
