Season will be here soon, I’m just wondering who some of y’all are #1 Contenders to dethrone each of the 2021 Regional Champs (Don’t respond with no one that’s no fun) mine are

5A- Salem (VB)
5B- Woodside
5C- Herm
5D- Mountain View
If I had to rank in terms of probability I’d say

1. Salem
2. MV
3. Herm
4. Woodside

What do you guys think??

I like your choices. I really don't know enough about the other regions this year except, Stone Bridge loses a ton from this past year so they might not be nearly as strong. Hermitage will be good! Will the be good enough to unseat the Springers? I think HSHS will be primed to take back the State Title in Class 5. I Predict HS will be preseason #1.

Edited post: Forgot Manchester went 6A...
Agreed, Hermitage has best chance.
Is Manchester going to class 6 this coming season? I thought it would be the following year when the 2 year cycle starts. I understand that HSHS will most likely be Class 6 when the cycle changes. HS is holding right around 2,000 students.

They went back up last season. Lost to Western Branch in the second round.

I agree with your statement about Stone Bridge this that fact plus I believe Mountain View will be extremely capable they have risen to the top in a district that contains familiar heavy hitters like Forge North and Ponax…. Gotta still consider Stone Bridge the favorites until the games are played of course last year’s final score wasn’t pretty

You could be right in all the regions except 5B I think till beating and the way that region sets up Maury is the team to still come out of there and oh yeah definitely not counting out HSHS out of 5C

HS rising junior QB has received an offer to Va Tech and UVA! He is ready and poised to win a football championship ring after he's won a ring in Basketball!

Herm will be good, but they lost a lot of speed. IMO, that (and coaching & the environment at Springer Stadium) was the difference in them and the Springers last November. HS made them look as if they were running in slow motion at times. Coney is back, Corey Morton is back (2x all region linebacker/safety) and they’ll have one of the biggest lines in Class 5. In fact, Herm’s 2023 class is deep. The Lake Taylor game hurts them with points when Springers play Chambers (6A point wise), Martinsburg (5A points wise), Colonial Forge (6A) and Manchester (6A). Springers will have home field advantage until state championship Saturday.

I just heard (like 10 minutes ago). Not that any of this really matters, but interesting none the less! today, HS just finished 2nd place in a very tough South Carolina 7v7 competition. I don't know of any other details, I just heard that. So, if anybody knows more than I do, please share!

I heard that the Springers beat a loaded Chambers team at Virginia Tech last week. Springers won that championship too. Can’t wait to watch that game in the fall in full pads.

chambers lost their head coach who is @ VT now. AND kids in that area transfer with the wind. according to the NC HSFootball board, they also had to forfeit the whole 2021 season!!! likely due to illegal transfers. The same Coach did the same thing when he was @ I. River, too!

the Springers are playing another really tough schedule. I'd like to see them take the win in NC.

Colonial Forge hopefully will be much improved but they've lost some top notch coaches over the last couple years & they've lost their toughness. Their game vs HSHS last year was over by the 1st quarter.

Who is Chambers' new coach?

Who is Chambers' new coach?
Brandon Wiggins. He came from Mallard Creek. Mallard Creek and Chambers is the exact equivalent to Varina and Highland Springs. 5-6 miles straight shot, distance wise, and lots & lots of talent between them.

Chambers had 1 illegal player and that was the star running back. He left to go to another school and Chambers got slapped and he’s suspended for 365 for residency.

This is a message (copied & pasted) I got about how the championship game in SC ended.
"The team was from either SC or Fla. They beat them by one with a 2pt conversion. 1 minute left to play. Went for the win rather than the tie."
