Joseph White scored three rushing touchdowns as Collegiate picked up right where they left off from their title winning 2016 season with a 34-13 win over Trinity Episcopal. The Cougars scored on their very first play from scrimmage and they never relinquish the lead.
The game was close until late in the 3rd quarter when White broke two runs for touchdowns to help push a 7-point lead to 21. He ended a 50-yard drive with a 12-yard run with 3:48 to go in the 3rd quarter and then he turned the corner for a 39-yard touchdown run with 10:19 left that gave Collegiate a 34-13 lead. He finished the game with 139 yards and three scores.
Collegiate quarterback T Brewer completed 12 of 20 passes for 162 yards including a 70 yard strike to a wide open K.J Rodgers on the 1st play of the game. He adding another 40-yards rushing.
Both of Trinity Episcopal's touchdowns came on long pass receptions. Tink Boyd made an acrobatic catch for a 34-yard touchdown in the 1st quarter and Wit Ferrell got behind the Cougar defense for a 60-yard hookup with quarterback Taylor Eggers on the 1st drive of the 2nd half. The Titans were shutout the rest of the game.
Offensive MVP
Running back Joseph White rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cougars. White runs with a physical presence and he broke several tackles on his way to the endzone.
Defensive MVP
I gave the defensive MVP to Charles Geho who put pressure on the quarterback all afternoon while also getting credit for both a sack and pass interception.
