I have been very impressed over the years with the Giles tradition. It's easy to "win with class" but I witnessed that you guys can also "lose with class" today. No one goes 27-0 without being awesome so congratulations on a fantastic run. Glenvar changed their defensive strategy and really.....I thought that was the main reason for the big upset today. Giles didn't have answer for the defensive change. It wasn't because Giles had a bad day or were over confident. Do you Giles faithful consider this a rivalry yet?

All I will say on this matter is

Glenvar played great today and deserved the win....we(giles) have been fortunate the last couple years to not taste defeat but we did today and IMO lost to the better team today.....Congrats to Glenvar and good luck to them next week.

I will not answer the "is it a rivalry yet" question

They also changed their "O" scheme...they cant run well...so the threw...and did it well...with an extra blocker....the 2 tds right before half killed us...should have never let the receiver behind you on what essentially was a hail Mary...at the 50 with under 15 seconds and they score 14...very well thrown but still should never happen...2 or 3 safetys at the 5 at the snap and that doesn't happen.....and the one at the end of the second (about 2 seconds later) was a bust by the refs...he was down...it wasn't a fumble...but all that being said I do think Giles played bad and may have been overconfident...and Glenvar played to darn near perfection....as far as a rivalry goes.....we play every year...and since its 20-1 I think its more their rivalry than ours.....but this might get it going......GO GILES

I was so happy Glenvar attacked and then attacked again instead of taking a knee at the end of the half. Some of the fans were saying it but the coaches weren't listening. Proud that they were there to win and pull out all the stops. Thought Glenvar played almost a perfect game..1st time all year...

I'm Glenvar all the way but youre right..don't think it will be a rivalry from the Giles side until Glenvar beats them again. Could happen next year as Glenvar has almost all key players back and a big senior class and they have learned what they have to do to stop the single wing which has haunted them for all these years.

Add to that all of the seniors Giles is losing and Glenvar might just deliver a worse beat down on their home field next year. Wilson looks better on paper, but after seeing Wilson play three times and both Giles-Glenvar games, I think the Highlanders might have something for the Hornets. The adjustments made by Glenvar's coach for the Giles game were simply fantastic. Glenvar will outcoach Wilson if they meet.

The difference is Glenvar don't have film to look at and critic where they have lost to the Hornets earlier this year. IMO that had a lot to do with this win. As the old sayin, you learn from your mistakes

If Glenvar gets by Nottoway..and that is a big if...WM doesn't know anything about Glenvar either so not sure either team has the advantage. Glenvar boys are very hungry as Giles found out today. I don't expect they will play any less physical wise and they aren't afraid of anyone. They will give anyone they play their best shot including WM. Today was no fluke. TYhis was the first game since mid September they've had almost everyone healthy.

Re: All I will say on this matter is

We do lose a good bit but also have alot coming back especially on defense....alot of kids that got plenty of PT this year and a few kids that were just stuck behind really good players at certain positions....we will be fine next year i think.....I got confidence our coaching staff will come up with something to make us very competitive once again

Re: All I will say on this matter is

We have great skill kids co.ing back next year but question will be o line. Can some of the jv jus step up? I look for some growing get pains early but I think Giles can be pretty good mid season

Ist game3 weeks ago they were trying to pass but two of our best O line were out and the QB couldn't get enough time to set his feet and missed his targets. He had a couple of near misses and a long pass that was called back for holding. Then he got hit hard and was knocked out of the game in the first half and they had to abandon the game plan. This time all worked out to perfection.

the 2 tds at the end of the half was what Giles has been doing to Glenvar for years. Get things rolling and the other team on their heals and then go for the knockout to put the game away. Almost everyone in the stadium, including many Glenvar fans thought Glenvar should take a knee to avoid risking a Giles score right before half, but Glenvar coaches played unafraid and trusted the kids.

I've looked the wdbj video over and over and it looks like a fumble to me. His knee landed on top of a defender and that is where I see the ball come out. If that was the wrong call. it was close enough that I would say it wasn't a bust by the refs..just a bang..bang play that could be called either way.

Nobody is giving Glenvar much of a chance going forward but I think the Giles players and coaches know how big strong and fast they are. They will do well as long as they stay humble and hungry. Those are the two attributes I would say Giles County has instilled in their kids and a big reason for their continuous success. Good luck next year. and by the way some of the signs were pretty funny I have to admit, but they might want to rethink some of those as they helped fire up the Glenvar players

Not that any of it matters....I mean its just one score...but Im sure he was down...it was directly in front of me...everybody stopped for a second...but it doesn't matter....Word to the wise....few years back our big playoff killer was Powell Valley....Us Spartans got so amped up playing them and beating them that it looked like the next week we were satisfied beating Powell Valley and lost the game....in the stands we all expected the long pass...gotta blame coaches on that one...a 40 yard completion don't kill ya...have at least 2 back around the endzone at the snap...but everything was crazy...hell, how often does a squib kick hit the up man and come straight back for a recovery....it just felt like one of those days when everything went against us....wet field hurt us bad...boys kept slipping on cuts...everyone says both teams played on it..true...but Giles has more pulling guards and backs have to cut...Glenvar ran pretty straight...contained that pretty well...the pass didn't get contained...Pass interference call in the 1st wasn't a good call...but that wouldn't matter either....it is what it is...Glenvar played better yesterday and got the win...as far as the signs go...if we would have won there would have been more this week.....GO GILES

The 20-1 ratio says it's not a rivalry. granted some will say it's one, but it's not.

when Glenvar evens up the series, then yes..
