3-0 NHS traveled to 2-1 Middlesex (whose only loss was in OT to undefeated W&L) tonight.

The Northumberland Indians pulled out a thrilling come from way behind thriller to win 33-22 to remain undefeated at 4-0.

Talk about overcoming adversity - the Indians overcame that and more tonight. Last year and before I think the Indians would have given up down 22-6 in the 3rd quarter away against a strong team.

1) The Indians played away against a fired up Middlesex, hyped for the upset. Nice loud crowd on hand.

2) Indian went down early and stay behind until I think the 4th quarter.

3) NHS had lost 4-0 turnovers during quarters 1-3.

4) During the 1st half many calls went against the Indians, some good, some questionable. Having said that I think overall the ref crew did a fine job (except the NHS crowd wanted Middlesex star #1 ejected for throwing what looked a like a punch during the 1st half in front of the visiting side).

5) NHS star Palmer was unavailable again, on the sidelines in street clothes.

6) NHS star Kam Lee went down in the third with what could be a long injury. However, right before he went down Kam scored like a 75 yard exciting TD and added the two points to make 22-14. Hope and pray for a speedy recovery.

7) The NHS Defense rose to the occasion in the 4th quarter with 3 interceptions to take lead and sealed it with a pic 6 by tough player Colin Saunders (who has like 5 TDs this season).

Great job to NHS Coach Lewis and staff and all the Indian players. What a show!

I will also add that Middlesex is a really good solid team. They have a couple star players, play smart organized ball, and have a great kicker if needed.

They also have a beautiful stadium and outdoor athletics facilities. Dang, when I got there I thought the field looked as sharp as some well done D-3 college fields I've seen.

Middlesex is 2-2. The two teams they lost to are NHS and W&L who have combined 8-0 records this season. Both losses Middlesex had a good chance to win.

I wouldn't be surprised if Middlesex were to defeat either/or West Point and King William this season. Especially if the play at home.

Middlesex plays West Point and King William both on the road. At WP on October 5th. Guessing it's on a Thursday night because it's Crab Carnival weekend in WP. They play at KW on October 20th

Great win for the Indians last night against a playoff Middlesex team in a hostile environment. Northumberland defense was flawless last night yes middlesex scored 22 points but all points came From great field position due to Indians turnovers. Sophomore Dionte Kelley (Palmers backup) is emerging as a star as he threw two more touchdowns and ran for over 100 Yards. Other star Collin Saunders caught 2 more interceptions and return another one for a TD for the 2nd straight game.

This was an exciting game for sure. uvacavs1 is correct with much of his analysis of the game. Middlesex had the lead the majority of the game and was unable to finish it out. Both teams had multiple turnovers (Northumberland 4; Middlesex 3), both teams had numerous penalties (Northumberland 10/80; Middlesex 9/85), both teams nearly had players ejected for extracurricular activities, and both teams had a decent kicking game.

Middlesex led in a number of statistical categories but the big play capabilities of Northumberland proved too much to overcome. Northumberland scores on a 96 yard punt return, a 65 yard td run, a pick six that goes off of two Middlesex receivers first, and a 29 yard pass td that was intercepted by Middlesex and then taken from the DB by the receiver for a score.

Both teams were challenged tonight and had highs and lows and appear that they could make some noise later in the season if they can limit their turnovers. Hats off to Northumberland who battled back to win the game and to Coach Lewis for his great start.

I attended the game, and it was definitely a back and forth game. Adjustments at the half by Northumberland was definitely the difference. Word is Palmer will line up this weekend against Trinity, but in the receiver spot instead. Not sure if that will still hold true due to the injury to #6. Hope he will be ok.
