Hey Mascot Memorizer, I see that Pittsylvania County Schools has posted an opening for head football coach at Dan River. Do you have any details?

Without some changes......

Tunstall is not a good job. Very little support in the former administration, and if the information on the makeup of the selection committee is true, it doesn't look like that will change in the future.

Re: DR Coach-Correction

The PCS site has corrected the posting. It now shows the Tunstall head football coach vacancy.

What do you mean by very little support ? Some selection committees in high schools are rather unique. I talked to someone who interviewed for a HC job once, and he said there were no questions asked pertaining to the sport .

Re: Without some changes......

Relative to the gate receipts it brings, football received little support from within the school and substantially less than some other sports at the school. No selection committee for a football coach(or any sport) should ever be formed without at least some representation from stakeholders with direct knowledge of the sport. To not have them represented substantially increases the likelihood that the search will be deficient or that it is just window dressing. The stakeholders can come from the ranks of the parents, players, boosters, former coaches, etc.. If I was the person you referred to in that interview, I would not have left there feeling good about the interview or the position being sought.

All very true. I have heard of interviews at some schools being conducted after "selection" had been made. Interviews were just a cover-up.
I interviewed for a position once, that had been "filled" 6 months prior.

I agree cutnjump it doesn't seem to be a very good job, however if they hire defensive coordinator David Potts I think they'll be one of the best teams in the area. They have the size out there, not very fast, but Potts has a very good system he ran when he coached their JV team a couple years back which won him 2 district championships and 3 "county championships" and he passed up the Chatham job a couple years ago to stay at Tunstall. Tunstall has been competitive the past 4 years but only time will tell.
