East Rockingham or Central in pts?

Central and East Rock have three opponents in common: Riverheads, Madison County, and Stonewall Jackson-Quicksburg. These games can be ignored. This leaves the following opponents with class then nondistrict opponent wins thus far in parentheses. District opponents will play each other, so their games against each other will roughly even out. East Rock will get a slight edge in net bonus points from district opponents.

Central:
Skyline 3 (1)
Brentsville 3 (1)
King William 2 (3)
Clarke 2 (1)
George Mason 2 (1)
Strasburg 2 (2)

East Rock
Spotswood 3 (2)
Staunton 2 (2)
Page 2 (2)
Stuarts Draft 2 (1)
Buff 2 (2)
Wilson 2 (1)
Luray 2 (2)

Most of Central's opponents will struggle to win many games except when they play each other. King William will clean up their district giving Central a trove of bonus points that should make the difference in the final tally. Adding KW to replace Man Park was brilliant, but not a game the Falcons should take lightly. I give Central the inside track for #1 seed. East Rock needs Spotswood to get hot, which may not be super likely. Overall, I think Central will benefit from the Manassas Park and Park View-Sterling decisions. It will be close, though. Sorry for rambling.

Any football fan who lives within 75 miles of that game (if it occurs) should attend that one if they are not otherwise engaged supporting another team. It should be a classic.

Yes, I was referring to a quite likely East Rock/Central match-up. Sorry if that was not clear.
Two of the possible teams that could prevent it from happening play each other tomorrow night in a game that was postponed because of weather. The game between Buffalo Gap and RE Lee- Staunton was supposed to be tonight but will be played tomorrow. Tuesday night high school football! I'm starting to love bad weather.

@obguthr, I don’t mean to doubt what you have seen in Lee or even in Gap but neither will beat ER if they played a dozen times each. Haven’t seen Central to be fair but they should have taken another step with all of their players returning. It’s still early so anything can and probably will happen.

What has surprised me is that all the talk about East Rock, not all glowing was how they had the offense but no defense. They shut Riverheads out for the first time since 2004 and that part hasn't been raved about. It's been mentioned, but I thought that was the more impressive thing in the game.

I think people are just accustomed to selling ER short. Not saying its wrong, but they still aren't expecting them to be good???

I admit I didn’t think they had enough D. But I have witnessed supposedly better teams get abused by our small line in the trenches over the years. After seeing them first hand, this ER team has the D to go with the O they have had for several years.
Could be completely wrong but they have a shot to be in Salem for sure. I just don’t see Gap with Rivenburg and company as being able to beat them. And I don’t see Lee as capable to contain them should they meet again, with or without their QB.

See that is what some people dont want to admit. Riverheads doesnt have the best players or super athletic over others. Their line is why they have been so good. And that isnt the same kids, its because of the coaching.

They will certainly be ready to right the ship against Gap. Dont expect a close game

RE Lee 24 Gap 16 at the half. Rivenburg is a stud, but after this year, Gap will be in rebuild mode. In person, Gap looks better than expected, but it's still pretty much the Rivenburg show. Stop him and you win.

Yeah, I doubt it will be close. Riverheads is pissed. Gap is on a short week. I think it's in Greenville. Lord...

Rivenburg is good,Luray kept him out the endzone most of the night that is how they beat Gap 28-21

Just based on one game (and I know one game is a very small sample), I don't think ER's defense is good enough to make it to Salem:

Madison County moved the ball up and down the field v. ER, albeit the game ended at halftime due the weather (and ER up big). I don't think MC has a very good offense, but moved the ball on ER, especially through the air. If not for turnovers and silly penalties, it would have been a closer game. ER still wins that game big, but they gave up lots of yards. A better offense will exploit them, IMHO.

I was thinking the same thing until I saw the game with Riverheads. East Rock's D-line is much improved over just a couple of weeks. They played extremely well against Riverheads's misdirection plays. Madison is faster than Riverheads and speed may be East Rock's achilles heel. They are sure to see plenty of it in the playoffs. We'll see how they respond.

Madison had over 300 yards of offense in the half at ER. Matthew Lewis had well over 100 rushing yards. A fast, balanced team will be ERs undoing, IMHO. And I wouldn’t mind being wrong. I kinda like the Eagles...except when playing MC!

I am definitely an ER homer so take this for what it's worth. The Marshall is correct on one point, the Madison speed was an issue for East Rock but they would have easily scored over 100 points against Madison had the game been completed. East Rock throws the ball around pretty well with Dillon Williams spreading the balls between Kisling,Kisling (Issac & Tanner) Brown and Morris. Anyone who sits back to defend the pass will struggle with the shifty, power running from Evans, he is probably averaging 200yds a game. A very balanced attack so far that nobody has been able to stop.

Defense has been stout to this point. They don't have great team speed but are very athletic and finally this year they are starting to group tackle. With Baylor and Morris at the linebackers it's tought to move the sticks. The backs from Riverheads were fast and tough but that ER defense smothered them. A team that can throw the ball well will give ER problems, something in a spread format with lots of speed. The limited success Page county had Friday night was thru the air but their QB wasn't able to complete enough passes to make a difference.

It should be a fun ride to the end of the regular season for East Rock with very little resistance on the horizon. I haven't seen Central so I can't speak for them but hope for a great game if they end up meeting down the rode.

I have watched a TON of football games in my life and have NEVER, EVER seen a team score 100 points. Never will...especially with the running clock. At least you know you are a homer:) A fast, balanced team will be ER's undoing, IMHO.

Luray was the better team. Madison can score fast (2 TDs in 37 seconds at end of 1st half) then look inept. 31-28 was the final I think. Luray was physical, as usual, but limited in passing ability. Last year, their QB could scramble and throw it. Not sure they can do that now. BUT...they ran so effectively against MC, they didn't really need to throw it so maybe they were holding back?

Honestly, after that game, I thought MC was on the verge of returning. But their defense is not real good at present. They have lost a couple of very winnable games due to the defense. It looks like they are playing a 3-4 defense. That is a tough row to hoe in HS.
