Don't know all the details. Was 16-12 with a minute to go in the 3rd when Essex scored on a blocked punt. Couple more turnovers in the 4th lead to last 2 Essex touchdowns. Young kids from KW are taking their lumps but will only continue to get better.

King William deserves props for playing hard and making a game of it knowing they were a big underdog (and coming off a bad loss to Bruton). I expected the game to be over by the 2nd Quarter yet KW gave Essex a scare as it was 16-12 until the last play of the 3rd.

Essex did shoot themselves in the foot several times with foolish penalties. Two long nice looking Essex TDs were brought back by penalties. One play went from an Essex TD to Essex having the ball 60 yards back up the field on multiple penalties. Some of those calls I'm sure were good, others were probably crap.

Overall, Essex and KW played a good game. Nice crowd for the Battle of 360.

King William looked pretty good. Solid QB that can run and throw. Working out this summer with former Hanover, VA Tech and now Rams draft pick Sam Rogers paid off. They have a good RB/WR/return man in Gresham. Also have a good size OL. If they can develope another solid WR, that offense will be real nice. Defense is ok but like the offense, they are young. Next year KW will be a force again. Essex had 3 TDs called back due to penalties. One of the 3 called back was gotten back later in the drive. Pretty sure Essex had close to 100 yards in penalties tonight. Gotta clean that up.

Great job to ALL involved in the launching of Essex's initial athletic Hall of Fame class and game.

Many great wonderful former Essex stars (coaches, players and supporters) were included and introduced at halftime. Well Done!

KW has had a rough year already but the potential for them to pick the ball up remains. They lost some boys this year that chose not to play for their own reasons. They headed to Essex without their Head Coach last night. Some spent their day defending that coach. They were in their own heads this game so to me given the score really didn't divide until 3 quarter, it seems they did pretty good against the Trojans. It's been a while since KW beat Essex. Hopefully from here on out they can pick themselves up and get down to business on the field.

With the jv score being Essex 8 King William 6 Final and varsity being young...KW should be able to knock off Essex next year. KW's program is going to be a beast in 2018. Essex might not be as strong next year. Time will tell.

Henry Ashton and Ray Whittaker should have been among the inaugural class as should the late Darryle Hammond. And Chris Rose should have been inducted as well. No one has done more for Essex athletics than he has.

Coach Ashton and Hammond both were inducted according to what I read in the Rappahannock Times. Mr Whittaker and Mr Rose however weren't but both are worthy recipients indeed.

Two coaches....The late Coach Ashton, Coach Steve Lewis. There was 1 Sports Backer ... Mark S. Chinn who takes care of the athletic fields. There were 8 athletes...The late Darrel Hammond Class of 1984 (Football Baseball Basketball Track), UVA, arena football Hall of Fame member, Amanda Smith Bundy Class of 1985 (Basketball, Softball). Stacy Tutt Class of 2000 (Football Baseball Basketball) University of Richmond QB and played for the Jets a couple years. Tracy Thomas Germaine Class of 1991 (Track Basketball). Lorenzo Bundy Class of 1977 ( Baseball Football Basketball Track) is currently 3rd base coach with the Marlins. Faye Green Nance Class of 1973 ( Softball Track). Cora Jackson Robinson Class of 1973 (Basketball Softball Track). Harold Mozingo Class of 2003 (Baseball) was drafted by Mets out of high school but went to play at VCU and later drafted by another pro baseball team. One team...the 1978 unbeaten Group A State Champion Softball Team. I think it was said that was Essex High very 1st championship in any sport.
