Will Fall sports be the next thing to be cancelled? There is no way to tell at this point when we will get back to life "as usual". what is everybody's thoughts?

With schools now officially canceled for the rest of this year, that would seem to rule out spring sports 100% although I guess there had been at least some thread of hope that they could still be salvaged. I am sure you have heard about the Olympics being postponed until maybe some time in 2021. So your question is very real. I doubt if anyone has an answer at this point.

The only potentially good news I have heard lately is that the hardest hit countries (China and Italy come to mind) have started to level off in terms of their death tolls, which you would hope means that pattern would continue. Therefore other countries, including the US of course, will have to reach their worst stage, whatever and whenever that may be, before they too can begin to level off. Unfortunately no one knows how close we are to reaching that worst stage.

I would hope that younger people as a whole can start to take this more seriously than some of them apparently are, and that the "good kids" can reach out to the ones that just haven't gotten the message yet, such as the spring breakers and those two fools up in Purcellville who thought it was funny to go into a supermarket and film themselves coughing all over the produce. Peer pressure can be a good thing when used in a positive way.

The only chance we have to get back to sports in the fall is if people will take things seriously right now. The longer people ignore the requests to stay apart, the more likely we will have to postpone fall sports.

Thought I would bump this back to the top. It's been over a month now since my original post. Thoughts?
I'm leaning towards school going back in the fall, but with restrictions like altered schedules to reduce the number of people in the building at the same time....(6 feet apart in classrooms / hallways, etc...). Lunches being brought to the rooms. Not sure if Sports will be allowed, unless they check each player's temp before each practice and game... Sports not looking good for the fall at this point. Anybody have a different take on it?

According to the latest from our Goobenor, we might not get back to normal until a vaccine is available, which could take 12-18 months.

That would probably end HS sports for the fall, winter and likely next spring.

Hope this resolves well before that time table.

It will be interesting to see how other states handle the situation and if Virginia will fall in line or do their own thing. Virginia is becoming more and more like California every day, with Northern Virginia making all of the decisions for the rest of us, so who knows.

With this governor, I wouldn't count on fall football. Hope I'm wrong, but he's---- well you know.

Oh gosh, be careful! The board leftists will have a fit if they read this. And yea, I dont believe for a second he'll lift this lockdown come June 10th, and that will have nothing to do with COVID. One positive is that he is spineless. So if the states around us start opening back up, he'll probably follow suit.

I doubt he cares what the other states do. After his yearbook SNAFU, he will do anything to stay in the good graces of the radicals...including robbing our youth of some of the best years and experiences of their life!

I'm not sure about Virginia. I am having my doubts at this point. I think with Tennessee reopening, there is a good chance they may get their season started, but when a second wave of the virus hits, I think their seasons will get the ax as well.

Yeah! Who cares about all the people dying, these teenagers should be able to play baseball! That's what's important.

Yeah! Who cares about all the people dying, these teenagers should be able to play baseball! That's what's important.

And right on time, a leftist.

"All" the people.. you mean all the people who died of something else and were still coded as Coronavirus deaths? Thats what Birx acknowledged a couple of weeks back.

I miss sports as much as the next guy (probably more so than most of you) but when I read things like 20 or 30 people dying in the same nursing home or as I read about in today's paper...a guy that died only two days after being diagnosed...........that is enough to convince me that this thing is a serious threat. So I cannot imagine there being any wisdom in sending several thousand people out to a football field on a Friday night shoulder-to-shoulder and all bunched tightly up together until we are pretty damn sure that most if not all of those people are healthy enough to be out there.

Call me any name you want on the political side of things but to me it is more of a common sense issue. Having said that I hope we could all agree on one point..........we would get along a whole lot better if our top government officials would all get on the same page instead of sniping at each other all the time.

This guy sums up what I think pretty well. And he's humorous as all get out.

Not to embolden political debate, but I think the affects from the shutdown may hurt our country more long term than to open back up. Seeing businesses forced to close doors and unemployment skyrocket is a sad thing. The stimulus money while needed, in my opinion, is going hurt in the long run due to inflation. (For example I got my regular salary and covid stimulus, I didn’t need the $1200) I’m interested to see how the shutdown will affect education long term. Could we see populations that are extremely affected by educational shortfalls because they were unable to receive an education? NOVA doesn’t have to worry about that one but rural school districts do. My hope for football and for sport again is that our country desperately needs something to take our minds off this. I think the public yearns for sport to help us heal from everyday life. What was one sentimental moment following 9/11? How bout George Bush delivering a perfect strike or Mike Piazza hitting a big time homerun? Our country uses sport to unite and to heal and to help us escape the everyday crap that can sometimes be life. I tell you what I had fallen out of love with the game of baseball for quite sometime now, but after the last month and change, if we get it back I’ll attend as many games as I can. I’ll drive to Camden Yards or Nats Park. I’ll go to the local minor league team’s game. Why? For the love of sport and the bond it gives us. I think the love of sport is why you see The Last Dance or the NFL Draft getting such great ratings right now....the people want their games back. Small towns need the healing of high school sports at the end of the day and so will small town athletic budgets need football. My hope is that in 4 months we’ll at the very least be getting ready to start practices. Remember fellas, it’s April! A lot can change! Hang in there

Opinions vary but the honest facts indicate an incredible over reaction. So next year, when flu season rolls around, just wait for what happens...

“Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the Government’s purposes are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding.” Justice Louis Brandeis.

Ahhhhhhhh. Take a deep breath and realize why this dude is the tool of Big Stone Gap. Aren't you the same guy that said Union was better than Appo when Appo came to Union and won in 2017? LOL. That's all I need to know about your brain chemistry. Brother, Vietnam, China (the starter and cause of this) Venezuela, and even Cuba are taking citizens of your persuasion. What's the hold up? Get stepping Junior.

The study by Stanford sums up the C-19 virus. Google it.

1. It's bad and WICKEDLY contagious. How contagious? It's so much more contagious than flu that they estimated 1 in 6 to 1 in 7 people in California have had, or currently have it. There is no question it's contagious, but.............

2. The problem the left struggles with is that 1 in 6 to 1 in 7 number above. If the above is true (and Stanford isn't right wing by any means, lol) then the death rate is 0.08 to 0.1 percent of those that get it. Guess what the death rate of the flu is? That's right, 0.1 percent. The same, and that 0.1 percent is still that number EVEN WITH the flu vaccine. An estimated 1 in 4 to 1 in 5 New Yorkers have now had the virus, which again, suggests the death rate is right at 0.09 to 0.1 percent EVEN IN New York City, which was hit the hardest.

3. Again, not saying C-19 isn't serious. It is, but has there been to much paranoia? Yes, there has. Want to know the death rate of a strep infection or MRSA infection once it's in the lungs? 0.5 to 1 percent for strep and 15% for MRSA.

The above are facts, so those of the far left, word number 4 in this paragraph is like throwing water on an electrical circuit. Shi^ just goes crazy and smoke and confusion everywhere. My apologies for the facts. For those like Bigstonegaploser, I will stick with emotions, which is exactly what your first response in this thread spewed. Emotion and no relation to the actual point which is classic, Karl you know who.

And as the CDC keeps adjusting their numbers lower and lower we'll find many of these people who were stastically included as cv19 deaths actually died from...the flu. As I stated last week though, Brix admitted that people were being coded as cv19 deaths even if they died as the result of other things (cancer, car crashes, etc..), more money given to hospitals for cv19 deaths. Go figure.

And today, as I knew they would, many states backed their lockdown up by a month regardless of what the numbers say about declining deaths. But hey, lets release r*pists and a variety of other criminals from the prisons to make room for people not obeying the six foot rule, not wearing a mask or whatever. And I love the blind eye turned by these ignorant socialist wannabes when they have nothing to say about their beloved DiBlasio and his anti-semitism.

Oh... and Football happening this fall? Not at this rate.

Encouraging signs at the College level for football returning in the fall and baseball possibly resuming by July 4th. At the high school level, they may be a little more cautious. However, there is a little hope. Also there are reports of a possible vaccine by July and a treatment (remdesivir) called the "tamiflu for Coronavirus" is proving to be effective in shortening the duration of the virus by 4 to 5 days and significantly improving symptoms.

I'll pass on the vaccine. Thats rather suspicious for discovering a miracle vaccine so quickly.. who is developing it?

There is Zero chance of high school spring sports this year.

Astro-Zeneca and Cobra Biologics. They should know of it's effectiveness by July (pending clinical trial - which they want to fast-track and if it proves to be effective, it could be in wide-spread use by September.

I agree. I was referring to major league baseball may start as early as July 4th and College Football will try it's best to play in the fall ($$$$). Many states are opening back up and there are some treatments that are proving to be effective. IF we get a vaccine by September, that would be awesome. Whatever happens, the safety of kids and the general public should be priority #1.

My mother, who is in her 90s, is comparing this to the polio threat of the 1950s. She says that we all got a vaccine at a local school, but she doesn't recall if it was mandatory or just an opportunity you were given. Does anyone remember? Of course today with so many more people in the world and so many people skeptical of any vaccine, I don't see how it would be possible to make it mandatory. But it will be a relief when one becomes available.

Damn you're dumb.

You seem to know an awful lot about me. You got a little crush? Sorry to dash your dreams little buddy, but I don't float that way. There's nothing wrong with it, you were born that way, but unfortunately for you, I was not. Sorry.

and yes, I believe Union was the better team in 2017 but they didn't perform at their maximum level when it counted the most. glad you care so much.

when I expressed the same sentiment, people got mad. what's important is keeping as many people healthy as possible, sports and everything are secondary.

over a million cases, over 60,000 deaths.

and it's hilarious that you're whatever age and don't understand how viruses work. if I get a virus that wrecks my immune system then catch pneumonia and die, the virus is the root cause.

I feel for you, being so small minded that you have to relate everything to a political opinion. don't you need to go watch some cable "news" where a host shouts his talking points to you so you can get all your opinions and values?

over a million cases, over 60,000 deaths. Put an asterisk beside that number. As previously stated flu deaths are down this year.. , I wonder why?

You might have a point if that was the only thing that was being coded. But when they're coding those who die from cancer as corona deaths also? Yeah, sketchy. Keep in mind other folks reading this, hospitals are profiting from CV deaths, code it as such and more money comes their way.

I feel for you, being so small minded that you have to relate everything to a political opinion. don't you need to go watch some cable "news" where a host shouts his talking points to you so you can get all your opinions and values? I'm not the leftist who worships the MSM, you are though.

Just playing devils advocate here — but that number could be down because people stopped going out at the tail end of the flu season. With less interaction across the world — the flu would naturally get knocked down a bit. Just a thought.

The numbers are all over the place on who has what. Hospitals get more federal dollars for CV19 patients so do they fudge the numbers? I don’t know...probably.

But there is something that goes around every year other than the flu. All are dangerous to the elderly, the already sick and those with underlying conditions.

The reports I’ve read from MDs not associated with the government or a pharmaceutical company say we are greatly over reacting.

A hundred years from now, the history books are going to have a good laugh at our expense...the terrible partisanship, fake news, over reaction, under reaction, global warming, global cooling, Washington Redskins...

And we are supposed to be advanced?

Dont forget, a PawPaw fruit and a goat tested positive for Covid 19 in Tanzania a few days back..

But yeah, I'm not sure whats more laughable; the Redskins nearly 30 years of lousiness or the fact that they still have more rings than probably a dozen or more teams do, combined!

The state of Indiana has given the green light for school activities to resume on July 1st. Could be the beginning of many more to follow.

Check out House Resolution 6666. And then keep an eye out what's going on in Ventura County, Ca. This resolution will never pass at the federal level, but keep an eye out on state and local governments. Kiss your 4th amendment goodbye.

Nah, this virus isnt going anywhere yet. At this rate there will be no football season.

First, H.R. 6666 is a federal bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. I stopped watching the guy in the video when he tried to make it sound like it only applied to the author's home state. So far, it has been introduced and sent to a committee, with no further action. Of the current cosponsors, all but one are from the same party. Which means it will not pass the Senate, controlled by the other party, even if it suddenly advances in the House. And would not be signed by the current President also of a different party.

If you are concerned, you can track H.R. 6666 on www.congress.gov and just put the bill # in the search bar at the top.

Hopefully we will have sports back before you know it.
