Ranked #2 in the state in Group 4A, the John Champe Knights trailed by one entering the fourth quarter against the Freedom from South Riding, but doubled up the Eagles 26-13 in the final frame to prevail 78-66.
Kuony Deng had a monster night with 24 points, 20 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. Deng was 11-of-18 from the field. Max Murray added 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Zach Burdick chipped in 15 points, going 9-for-15 from the foul line. Dominic Fragala had 13 points off the bench.
For Freedom in defeat, they placed five players in double-figures. Zach Collins led the way with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Najeem Ebadi contributed 13 points.
Champe moves to 2-0 overall, while Freedom drops to 2-2. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Briar Woods on Monday, December 14th.
