Galax-7 GW-0

Does Harner run the D or the O? Just wanting to clarify. I seem to recall him running the offense when we played in 2015 but I could be wrong.

he runs both. Ive never seen a high school stay in 1 defense and have no other alignment. no 5 man front no short yardage no safety help. its crazy. the skinny post is open all the time. ive seen them play a few times over the years and the D is the same as it was 4 years ago. Dixon knows this and he out coaches their coaches every year.

Does he not have any coordinators that he can or will work with? I am just accustomed to seeing the head coach run one side of the ball and an assistant run the other side of the ball.

I know you dont think he can coach and you may be right for all i know but his record suggests other wise.
I really think our record since he had been at GW has a lot more to do with who we've played and the amount of talent we've had. But that's just my opinion.

This is just par for the course.....

GW gets the doors blown off and it's the coach's fault. There is never any accountability. It can't be the player's fault....WE HAVE THE BEST ATHLETES IN THE STATE FOR 1A!!!!!!!!

GW's defensive line was scared. They were blown off the ball 80% of the snaps. Zero of their defensive lineman could make an athletic play to get off of a block and make a play. GW's defensive backs were lost. Zero fundamental stalking, I didn't see any great recovery speed, and their tackling in space is a joke. I watched the same game you did, the difference is, I didn't watch them through maroon colored lenses. I always make the drive to GW to watch them play once a year.....I always try to pick the most competitive game to come watch because I want to honestly assess the talent I always hear so much about. GW has some talent, but not to caliber that I hear about on here. GW was outplayed at just about every position....and definitely all the positions that matter. Galax will always be a nightmare matchup for GW. GW strength is usually speed and Dixon knows how to eliminate that.....cram the field. Who cares how much lateral speed you have when I am handing it off tackle 70% of the time. Galax is content with picking up their 4-6 yards a play and keeping the ball away from all those "athletes". This isn't because Dixon is a better coach, he just definitely knows how to neutralize a speed based team (usually GW).

We can have our differences of opinions, but let's address some real problems for GW on Friday night....their defensive line play was laughable and their DB's were absolutely lost. Those are GLARING issues when they play a formidable opponent. Hopefully they can get it figured out before the postseason.
I couldn't agree more that we got dominated but GW has enough to play with Galax. And I'm beat them but it's hard to do when Galax blitzes from the left side of out line all night and zero adjustments are made. That is coaching or how they ran the exact same pass play all night with us making zero adjustments. Trust me I am not the only one who thinks this way. I personally know a good number of parents of starters who can't stand the guy. As a coach he is not ready to lead a team with the type of talent we have on a yearly basis. He just isnt.

That may explain even more why @G MASTER BLASTER W is always in his behind about his coaching.
The man makes absolutely zero adjustments none. If a team finds a weakness and exploits it he just leaves it. We run one defensive set and that's it. Galax ran the same blitz all night and it hit home almost every time. They sent one LB and the DE off our left tackle and he was expected to cover both of them. No back to help no shed blocking nothing literally no adjustments. Then hell all Galax had to do was throw over the middle about 15yards down field. We don't use a safety ever so all the kids for Galax had to do was get one step on us and it was over. I'll say it again he can't coach and he has to have the last say no matter what others see and try to correct.

I couldnt agree more. they skinny posted you guys to death. dixon knew you ran no safety in middle of field and they ran it there all night. still no adjustments. he really needs to leave if you guys want to win another state title

yes beating fort, marion, RR, bland grayson, are not note worthy. making the playoffs in 1C is not a major accomplishment. he gets out coached in every big game. this year will finish 7-2 and get bounced when we play galax. no hope to ever beat them with him there

GW was commiting to stop the run. He had the box stacked and was relying on speed and talent of the DBs to cover one on one. GW didn't think Galax could throw the ball good enough to beat them. It was either stop the run or the pass. It's pick your poison. He had the safety walked up behind the DB/OLB covering the slot receiver. In which most of those times either the DB would slide inside and try to blitz and the safety would cover the slot. Other times he would send the safety on a blitz. Sometimes he dropped back in coverage but more often than not he was sending one or the other to stop the run.

I watched the game on YouTube and while you guys are correct about Galax hitting the post, that wasn't what won them the game. Galax could've ran #1 all night and still blown Wythe out. He didn't even play the last quarter and change. looked to me like nobody wanted any of that guy running the football. Especially when he got up to speed, and ran through some guys. Effort to get in front of him was just not there.

No that is the only D we run has been for a few years now. We never have a safety watch any film on us no one deep over the middle.

While watching GW it seems that they have a one safety defense (looks like a 4-4). The corners on the outside run man. This doesn't seem out of bounds for GW to run 95% of the time. This defense allows their front 8 to shut the rush down and they have faith in their CB's being better athletes and their ability to shut down pass plays one on one. The deep safety helps as the "centerfielder" so to speak.

There's a few flaws to this defense....
1). If the front 8 is soft and gets beat on regularity in the trenches then this defense is going to get gashed by a rushing attack. Galax did that on the Friday I watched.

2). If your cornerbacks are overmatched with faster/better athletes they will be exposed all night. GW's DB's were terrible when I watched them play Friday. GW did not have the better athletes when comparing CBs to WRs and they were exposed.

3). The Safety in this defense has to do two things extraordinarily great....play recognition and recover speed....the kid I saw playing for GW didn't have those traits against Galax when I saw him play.

Also....if you are lacking in #2 and #3....it's going to be a long.....long.....night. The GW defense I saw was getting handled in all 3 of these areas. Their front 8 was getting gashed, their CBs were getting stuck on an island guarding guys they weren't better than, and the Safety wasn't helping....I am guessing that's a huge reason the score looked like it did.

yes thats pretty much what happened the thing is the safety plays man on slot which leaves middle of the field. i would play a two safety approach against them more zone to take away those slants. with a 5 man front with 2 mlbs to help with the run. thats just me.

not sure about that he had 2 runs for 90% of his yardage. i will take stopping the pass and giving them run.

I'll take that any day, the kid had 150 plus yards on only 7 carries against a stacked box. Take a defender or two out of the box what could of he got.

I think it’s misleading. They will get another shot for sure. I know last year when he was at another school he didn’t break 50 yds. But like I said GW gets out coached and schemed. Sure GW will come out with same game plan and it will be same result galax with a big win!

It's not a lock that they will get another shot, if Galax finishes 1 in points with Narrows at 2 and GW at 3 GW would have to get by Narrows to get another shot assuming all 3 make it that far.

If the talent level is down at GW it might be time to do some recruiting. Not for a coach but for talent. I’m sure there’s a fine young man down at the Presbyterian home that would love to be adopted by a local family that would be more than glad to raise him as long as he can run a 4.4 40yd dash consistently.

All I'm saying is watch him run through tackles then watch guys basically get out of the way or make poor attempts to tackle him. 150 on 7 carries and everyone from gw saying that's not the problem. Haha. Comical.

Obviously he wouldn't have kept that average over 20-25 carries. But GW does stop the pass and he gets 25 carries he goes for 300.

GW would have to have the perfect plan and play perfectly to hang with Galax. No disrespect to their kids but Galax is head and shoulders better. Coaching may have some to do with it but the 11 on the field for Galax were better than the 11 for GW. Plain and simple
