Galax vs Riverheads

Something missing from that equation . DIXON !
Dixon was and is a great coach but his play calling in the first half cost them the game in 2019 in my opinion, Shane Allen has done a great job over the last 2 years replacing him but if Dixon had never taken the job at Galax we would probably never got a chance to even play for a state championship in football and Shane Allen probably wouldn't have came here either. Dixon changed the culture at Galax in all sports really. I'm thankful for time we had him here.

I think coaches are on different levels . There are ones that are in it for a paycheck . There are others that are pretty good but just seem to settle for the average outcome and then there are a few that shine . These coaches will settle for nothing but the best from their players and the best possible outcome for the team . They seem to have the ability to stay one or two plays ahead of the coach across the field . These guys are trusted by their players and in most cases forms a bond , and at RHS this appears to be multiplied many times . Casto and Dixon are a couple of top notch coaches . There are others so if your team has one hold on tight . It may turn in to something NATIONAL !

So 1 ticket will get u in for both games if u do not leave, is that correct, some people think u need 2 different tickets

I would rather see Riverheads and Graham play each other. Then we would have a game
In my divisional alignment idea that will never happen they would be playing each other dangit!!!

And it would probably be Galax vs. King & Queen in D1.

I know these two teams are consistently in the state playoffs but I'm not familiar with Class 1 schools as much as I am with larger divisions so, I ask this question with sincere curiosity... Do either of these teams produce college recruits yearly? Who are some of the recent grads that have went on to play college football?

I can't speak for much of Riverheads past. Zac Smiley is currently playing at Ferrum.

As for Galax, Steven Peoples played at VT from 2015-2019. Caleb Spurlin has been a superstar at Appalachian State and is in his final season in Boone. Cole Pickett was a 4-year starter at QB for Galax and is currently a freshman TE at VT. Zamir Echegaray played at Ferrum in the mid 2010's. Jordan Vaughan played at Concord in the early to mid 2010's. There are several others that played at Bluefield, Emory & Henry, Ferrum, and UVA Wise.

Edit to add....Jacob Fisher played in the NCAA D2 National Championship game for Lenoir-Rhyne a few years ago. Charles Harris played at a small school in upstate New York. Joseph Dixon played briefly at Liberty.

Sounds like Galax has a strong history of producing college recruits! That's awesome! I remember Peoples at VT but I didn't know he went to Galax!

Here are the Riverheads college players I can remember with advanced apologies for anyone I forget or any incorrect information..........

Zac Smiley as reported is doing well at Ferrum. Word on the street is that his brother Noah, a senior at Riverheads now, may be interested in joining him there next year.

Mike Herndon. Big lineman at Riverheads who played a full four years at Pittsburgh. Graduated maybe 2-3 years ago. As most Gladiator fans are aware, Mike had lost his parents at an early age, so Mr. and Mrs. Casto took him under their wing and even escorted him on Senior Day at Pitt.

David King....starred at Riverheads, mainly on defense, about 6-8 years ago. Had to miss his senior year due to an auto accident, but went on to have a great career at Liberty, and even made Co-Captain for the Flames.

Jake Hutchinson......quarterback for the Big Red that led us to the 2006 title. That was one of the last years that RHS had a strong passing attack, one that almost exceeded the rushing game at times. He had two tall receivers. Jake went on to play QB for Bridgewater.

Shakier in my memory are a recent running back that I think went to Shenandoah, but I can't remember who that was, and MANY years ago, I think we had a defensive tackle that starred at NC State. I think we have also had some guys play D-3 or NAIA ball at some smaller WV schools, but don't quote me.

Any other Gladiator fans please fill in more details if you know them.........

As far as this game goes what I have been hearing is nobody is giving Galax a shot, but nobody gave them a shot in 2019 either but they were only a few questionable calls from the officials and some bonehead play calling away from winning that game. I think its going to be a fairly close game just because of Galax defense. Riverheads kryptonite is that tough line and linebacker play that I think is Galax strength. I think this will be the toughest defense Riverheads has faced all year.

Both teams are elite Class 1 programs that have been there multiple times in the past ten years and both are class acts. Losing to either of these teams is nothing to hang your head about. I hope for a good injury free, exciting game that the refs have no impact on.

I felt the Galax 2019 team was better then RH and had they ran ball with #1 35 times it would have been a 14 point win for Galax. That team was loaded

Should your mom be blowing me?!
Let us know how the lawsuit goes.

Also,

I'm glad you were here to shoot this idea down... ... lol

Money talks f@gg0t! Over 400 phone calls to VHSL demanding accountability for those racist officials spoke volumes! Woke!!!
What was the score of the highland springs score today? Oh yeah that’s right y’all didn’t get to play. 1A and 2A football have more heart then y’all 5 and 6A schools do. We also don’t recruit players to make championship winning teams

Go back to the SWVA board 🤡, or look in the VHSL record book and there aren’t any asterisks.

Congrats on the titles today to both Riverheads and King William.

It’s going well! 2 of the officials have already been notified that they are suspended for next year and they are pending investigation for racism and taking bribes! It’s funny you losers actually think single-A matters! Fkn JV trash!
That's a very shitty thing to say. It's one thing to go backhand forth with another guy but to insult all of 1A ball just bc you're mad at that dude is pretty lame.
1A ball has also produced some pretty great players and pretty great teams.

All four of those teams are high quality and were well worth the price of admission to watch. I think the weather hurt attendance for the second game tbh but SWVA showed up to support the G-men. Great conversations with several of their fans along with some Giles and Gretna folks.
I81 is so sketchy when there is bad weather. I dont blame anyone for choosing to stay at home vs. fighting 18 wheelers doing 80mph one minute and then cutting you off and doing 45 the next. One wreck is all it takes and you're SOL and stuck in a 10 mile backup.

Hey Xcross, was that you sitting down front around the 35 yard line toward the hill end? I heard you talking about your board comments and your tractor. I wish I would have introduced myself.
