Georgetown upsets Marquette....

I never dreamed it was possible, with the Big East being down, but GT is a bubble team. They've been super impressive of late and notched some big upsets.

Watching the Marquette game in particular, GT has found their groove. Akinjo is the primary ball handler and McClung is doing what I wasn't sure he could do, score consistently at his size from the two. It certainly helps having Govan being such a consistent terror as a big guy and Akinjo being a legit threat to pull up or more consistently create plays in the lane but none of the three are we successful without the other and watching the Hoyas come together as a team has been impressive, coming from someone who wasn't a fan but started watched bc of Mac.
Mac and Akinjo have made the Hoyas a legit TV option. FS1 or even Fox seems to wanna show them as much or more than Villanova, one of the best programs in recent memory or Marquette, who's led by a super exciting, Trae Young-esque scorer in Markus Howard.

On note of another GC player, while watching Wofford play in the SoCon tourney (and upsetting South Carolina earlier, a team who won 10+ SEC games), I'm not sure Ervin can expect to have impact McClung has had. It's crazy to say but Wofford, at least this year, is better overall than GT and they have some great scoring guards, the best 3pt duo in the nation and one guard likely to become the all time NCAA leader in 3pt makes. Ervin is gonna have to work hard to get minutes on that team.

speaking of being down; I never thought I would see the day that GT beating Marquette would be an upset

If you lived in 70s, you would have never believed GT could beat Marquette. Marquette was a national powerhouse under Al Mcquire. They also were a powerhouse since 2000-2010ish and GT beating them .....really since 2000 (the last 19) years on most years is an upset. Marquette is one of the more underrated programs in the country historically

I'm not sold on Ewing yet....but he needs several years before one judges him too much. Hes gonna have to overhaul the Hoyas culture and recruit well for a couple years at least. They look to be headed in the right direction but they are young and very inconsistent.

However, the Hoya teams the last few years with JT at the helmet was charmin soft......they didnt know the definition of tough. So hes gonna have to clean up that mess and start from scratch. Hes on the right track I think. Time will tell.

With Akinjo, Mac, and LeBlanc.....the Hoyas have a very good base to build from. They need a dominant big man first and foremost to stick around for a few years.

They have 3 big men coming in fall 2019 of which 1 is a four star, 6'10, and ranked just outside the top 100, and the 20th ranked center in the country. The second one is a 6'10, 3 star, and the last is probably the best one, a 6'11 center from Africa who isn't yet ranked by Rivals.

I feel like 1 of those 3 will at least pan out....but never know until they show up and prove their ranking. I'd like to see them land a 5 star Top 10 recruit big man....one that has a good chance of being a cant miss. Whether or not hes a one and done. Its alot easier to identify those types of players in basketball than it is in football IMO.
