Union 59, East Ridge (Ky.) 43
Union remained unbeaten with a win over the team from the Bluegrass State.
“We’re happy to be 3-0, there’s no doubt about that,” said Union coach Kory Bostic. “It’s early in the year, we still have a lot of things we have to work on. I think we can be a good team, but we still have a way to go before we can compete at the top of our district and region. We can get there. I have girls that are determined to fix the things that we need to improve on.”
The Bears had problems making a shot early, connecting on only one of their first 11 attempts. When Jayda Smith made a 3-pointer with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter, the shots began to fall. Union led 14-4 after eight minutes of play.
“All three games, it’s took us two or three minutes to get into the rhythm of the game,” Bostic said. “Once we make some buckets and can get into our press, it seems we’re able to set the tone for the game and get going at the speed we want to play at.”
Emili Brooks (18 points), Smith (17 points) and Heather Lipps (10 points) led the Union offense.
