Girls BB, Dan River gets big wins over Chatham, Altavista

Lady Cats upsets Chatham

Led by Alysha Walker’s 24-point, 12-rebound performance, Dan River pulled off a 46-40 upset win over Chatham.

LaMaria Glass and Jaylen Adams were the leading post players for the Lady Wildcats. Adams had 18 rebounds and 10 blocks, while Glass, who scored six points, secured 12 boards and blocked six shots.

Cavaliers' post duo of Bre Price and Princess Anderson were held to a combined 10 points. Destiny Wilson finished with a team-high 16 points.

Dan River 47 Altavista 44

Dan River won their third straight Dogwood District contest as they downed Altavista 47-44 on Senior Night on Monday. The Wildcats jumped out to an 18-9 first quarter lead after going 4-of-4 from three-point range and held their biggest lead entering halftime at 32-17. The Colonels mounted a second halftime comeback as they tied the game up at 42. But Wildcat senior Alysha Walker put the Wildcats back up with a basket and free throw.

Alysha Walker had an all-around great performance on Senior Night as she had 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. Camille Mangum chipped in 11 points and had three assists, while LaMaria Glass had nine points, eight rebounds, and six blocks. Jaylen Adams grabbed 12 rebounds, while Aliyah Fitz and Jasmine Owens each had five points. Altavista was led by Erika Mabry with 12 points and Victoria Burgess who chipped in nine points.

Dan River will host Halifax County on Wednesday, while Altavista faces Gretna on Tuesday.
