Callie Haderer has worked very hard on being a basketball star as far back as anyone can remember, and this week the John Battle senior officially arrived on another level.

Two nights after scoring her 1,000th career point in a game against Holston, the Trojan sharpshooter poured in 36 points to lead Battle past Virginia High.

“No way,” Haderer said, upon hearing that she had just notched her career-best game. “Oh my gosh. That's awesome – I didn't even know that.

“It was a great win.”

Despite her personal achievements, all Haderer wanted to talk about was the victory.

“We have two players – Haylee Dye (ACL surgery) and Michaela Monk (ankle sprain) – injured and out right now, so we were down on numbers,” Haderer said. “But we know that each of us have really big hearts and we knew we could do this.

“We worked really well together as a team and our defense ... fighting on defense is what got us through this game. We all knew our jobs and we knew we had to play a lot of defense to get this done.”

Battle, which led 10-4 after one quarter and 28-19 at halftime, got a 10-point game from Bethany Smith.

The Bearcats received a 20-point outing from Taylor Owens, while Jada Campbell kicked in 10.
