Senior post Sydney Pearce (Carson-Newman signee) paced four double-digit scorers with 16 points for Daniel Boone (8-3).

Emily Sizemore scored 14 points, and made three of her four 3-pointers in the first half. Jaycie Jenkins and Baileigh Carmichel added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Senior guard Macie Culbertson (Belmont) made a cross-over dribble for a basket that charged the capacity crowd, which unnerved some of the players and motivated others.

“They were so excited,” said Boone coach Travis Mains, whose team lost 74-37 to Riverdale on Saturday. “The Riverdale mentality bled a little over to our practice yesterday and I could see it tonight. Excited to see where they take that.

“Macie is a special athlete and Sizemore is dangerous shooting the ball. She and Baileigh space so well. Jaycie and Macie attack and Syd finishes and blocks those shots.”

Looks like a long season for the GC Girls - I remember a few years ago they had a really good team.

Looks like a long season for the GC Girls - I remember a few years ago they had a really good team.

Not so sure about that... I just think Tennessee high school girls is far superior to Virginia high school girls. Gate City plays Parry McCluer next week at Emory and Henry. I think PM is the odds on favorite in 1A girls, so I am kind of interested to see how that one shakes out. Also at Emory and Henry that same day is a 2A championship game rematch between Wise Central and Martinsville. Parry McCluer beat Martinsville by 18, so either PM is ungodly good or Martinsville didn't return everyone from last year.

Parry McCluer is pretty good. But, I didn' think Martinsville was very umpressive.

I suppose so - but I just don't remember seeing GC girls getting beat like that a few years ago.
