According to Richmond Times-Dispatch blog, there could be some changes coming for Richmond area schools in 2015 in the new classes and five of those pertain to 5A.

Glen Allen and JR Tucker could making the move from 4A to 5A...
Varina could be dropping from 6A to 5A
Manchester and Clover Hill could be moving from 5A to 6A...

So what could this mean?

For Glen Allen and JR Tucker, could mean harder roads come playoff time.

Glen Allen made the playoffs last season for the first time in team history but a few departed players and a new coach later, there is some question as to whether this team will carry on what was started last season or whether this season will be a transitional season... If the building process continues at Glen Allen, then the change may not hurt as much but going through schools such as Hermitage, LC Bird, Highland Springs and even Atlee is never easy.

The same can be said for JR Tucker... Tucker showed signs of promise last year and with Malik VanBrussell back leading the team on offense and an improving defense, 5-6 wins could be enough to get the Tigers to the playoffs for a second time in team history in 4A but what about 5A? The problem is, they like Glen Allen would have to face the tough of the toughest in schools such as a LC Bird, Atlee, Highland Springs, Hermitage, etc.... in 2015 and that is never easy, not even for the strongest of teams.

This isn't to say that being in 4A would be a piece of cake but Hermitage and LC Bird are two teams you can never count out as championship contenders and that just makes it tougher on a JR Tucker or Glen Allen that does not have the playoff experience that these schools do.

Then there is Manchester and Clover Hill possibly moving to 6A...

I strongly feel that Manchester could be a threat to both Hermitage and LC Bird in 5A this season but 2015 is another story. The question will be does Manchester reload or rebuild in 2015? If they reload, Manchester should do quite well but if they rebuild, it may not be so easy. It could also setup possible playoff matchups with county schools Thomas Dale, Cosby and James River...

Clover Hill on the other is a team that has hit a rough patch the past couple of seasons. I don't know enough about this team just yet to give a fair assessment but if the past couple of seasons are any indication of what the next couple of years holds, Clover Hill will not be a factor in 6A playoffs.

Then there is Varina who might be dropping from 6A to 5A... This could be interesting as far as matchups go... Two years ago when the regional playoffs came to an end, the Division 6 Central Region Title was between Varina and LC Bird which was fitting given from 1991-2012 they had combined for 14 of the 22 Division 6 Region Titles won in that time. Many thought this might be the last time you see the two play but should Varina move down, not only would you see future matchups with LC Bird but also future matchups with Hermitage and Highland Springs as well.

Will be interesting to see if these changes do come about in another year.
