Glenvar-Graham Scrimmage

Just got done watching the glenvar-graham scrimmage. Initial thoughts: Glenvar looked good up front on defense, secondary needs work but there are some new players there and did go up against a graham team that should be one of the most athletic teams in 2A. Graham stalled out initially with some drop passes and missed opportunities but looked better and better as the scrimmage went on. Overall I believe both teams should have similar success or better than they did last year.

I agree. Glenvar is very impressive at the line of scrimmage and have a good running game. They controlled the line of scrimmage on their first 10 play possession and scored twice. Once on a 75 yard sprint to the endzone by their RB who showed a good burst of speed.
Graham had success from the spread formation. The qb, Allen made some good plays stepping up in the pocket and making good passes. He had a couple of good runs from the pocket also. Devin Lester and Isaiah Justice were on the receiving end of a couple of nice touchdown passes. One, a line drive strike while on the run to Lester, the other, a fade route to Justice who made a beautiful tip toe catch in the end zone. (That one may have gotten called back on a penalty).

Glenvar really impressed me with their run blocking and run defense. Graham had little success running the ball. Glenvar tackled well.

Glenvar needs to work on defending the pass and and their passing game, Graham picked off 2 passes (Booker and Kastner).

Graham looked good in the spread, but needs to work on their run blocking. The line got blown up several times.

Graham really needs to improve their lineplay and their tackling on defense, way too many arm tackles.

Both teams had their share of penalties, which is expected in the first scrimmage.

Newcomers Booker and Shinault (who sat out last season) will make a positive impact on offense and defense. They both made positive plays.

Looks lrke Reed and Booker may share the load at rb.

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear that Glenvar did well against a very good Graham team. I think the young secondary will come along with the great coaching staff Coach Clifford has put together. Overall I'm optimistic about this team if they stay coachable, humble, hungry like last years team.

You should be optimistic. Good size and strength and a physical style of play. I like the RB, he was very elusive, reminded me a little of Biedelmann from Giles last year.

Question for other Graham fans however? Is Raley playing, or did he graduate. Is he hurt? I thought he was a junior last year. He could really help at center and on that D-Line. Also, the freshman, Meadows has been hurt. Any idea how long he will be out. I know he is a freshman, but his size alone would be an asset on the line. Appreciate any feedback you all have.

Just read that Glenvar's RB had 2700 yards last season? Is that correct? If so...wow. I can see how it happened, though. He is very shifty and that line is big and opens up huge holes.

That is correct but it was a different running back, he graduated. Last year’s running back was very tough and durable as he ran the ball 372 times. This year running back should be more explosive and hopefully can replicate some of the success they had in the running game last year.

My hope is that Glenvar's passing game will develop as the season progresses similar to what happened during the championship year. To win a state championship nowadays without D1 players (Glenvar has none) you need a mix of both run and pass and I think Glenvar will be one of the better teams, knowing who the boys are and how hard they have worked. That's what usually happens with good coaching staffs and kids who never quit...not always..no guarantees but the odds are in your favor.. That is what it is all about..overcoming adversity and that is why it is so hard to predict and what makes this game so interesting....so many variables. Some luck along the way is another variable that cannot be overrated.

Thanks so much for the clips. I couldn't get down there and these gave me a better feel. GRAHAM is obviously loaded with athletes. Going to take a very good team to beat them.
