these Goochland boys have different ideas in mind. most of them have been best friends since they were knee high playing together when they could barely walk. it's a small town full of a bunch of good kids. no team appo has played will play as hard as Goochland does. union was nothing. they were the size of a jv team with a quarterback that couldn't hit a building from 10 feet away. burton will hit the hole hard and make people pay that come to tackle him. this is gonna be a dog fight. Goochland comes out with the upset 21-14

Clarke thought they were going to walk the Dog to but seems like the Dog had other plans! Don't sleep on the Dogs you might get bit.
nctarheel good luck with that and your tarheels! LOL that cannon wont get much use on Saturday you will see and so will I. Let's just see what happens and revisit this conversation Saturday night! Both are great teams but must admit I wasn't impressed with what I saw Saturday night.

Calling union a Jv team is not only disrespectful, it's ignorant. The last I checked union had deafeated a very good dan river team the week before. Appomattox simply outplayed a good union team. Maybe Appomattox is just that good?
Maybe i used the wrong word. They havent been tested much this year but played much tougher competition. Im a fan of neither team just stating how i see it.
I'm sure goochland is a good team, but their toughest test thus far has been against a Clarke team I think most would agree is a little down from last year. A team appo beat soundly to say the least in the state championship

That's probably debatable on last years team being better. Saturday evening when the dust settles we'll all know.
We shall see! No disrespect to Union but the West just isn't what y'all think it is neither is the East. Unfortunately both of us play some weak teams. Here's the bottom line Goochland and Appo is gonna be a great throw down and I can't wait to watch it! Good luck to both!

Wow...That Union team played a harder schedule than Goochland did. If there were no divisions, and the playoffs were seeded by the ratings of both sides together, Goochland would have been the 7 seed, behind Union at 6. Stuarts Draft would be 5th. The top 4 of the West were the top 4 rated teams in the state.
Good to see you are confident, we like like taking the bit out of the dog. You talk about Union and what you saw last week but know this, look at your schedule and look at Appo's schedule. There is absolutely nothing you can bring that we haven't seen. Size,speed, or whatever! You just beat team in Clarke that took 4 qtrs to decide and we put them away by halftime last yr is state final. ( I think they will tell you they were better last yr.) I hope Goochland does come playing hard, Appo wants nothing less.
Appomattox has beat this year #1 Rustburg 3A who lost in 3rd, #6 Heritage 3A who lost in 3rd rd, #5 Amherst 4A who lost in 2nd rd (keep in mind when we played them they were #2 in 4A before we beat them). All of which have size and speed. Now let's drop to little old 2A, we beat 4# Dan River & #5 Union. Add 1A Altavista that made rd 3 ( they could play with most of these teams I just mentioned. 10 out the 13 teams Appomattox played made playoffs. You talk what you want to think is reality but apparently don't do much research. I am running out of room to type. Match that schedule to Appo. My question is you can search all week and won't find a harder schedule. If you think union was JV what does make most of Goochland schedule was, middle school?
Never said Goochland played a tuff schedule but not impressed with Appo's either. You know the great thing Saturday will sort this all out. It will be a great game and if anyone thinks Appo will blow Goochland out they will be in for a rude awakening. Good luck to both teams. Goochland was told Clarke was gonna crush them and well we see how that played out and that was with a kid who had over 2,500 rushing yards which neither Goochland or Appo can match. Clarke was the real deal and couldn't handle Goochlands D! Appo is a great team but so is Goochland. Sorry I compared Union to a JV team but they just aren't ready for this level.
Uh no disrespect, but obviously you were not at the state final last year if you think it was over by halftime. 14-6 heading into the 4th and Clarke's ball driving than a turnover App covers drives the field scores, than Clarke starts throwing with one or two pick sixes in the fourth quarter alone. Don't get me wrong I believe App will win by at least 35 Sat. but at least get some facts straightened out first.
Who told Gooch Clarke was going to crush them? Gooch's coaches ? for motivational purposes, press in the Richmond area ? never heard anything from Clarkes side that they were going to crush Goochland. Gooch's D is/was avg. at best and will guarantee that Gooch has not seen a team as fast as Appo's. Clarke's team last year was 5 times better overall than this years team so I can't call this year's team "the real deal". But anyway good luck to both Sat. but still think Appo wins by 35 plus.
sorry wasn't disrespecting Clarke as I thought they were better than the final score showed. lines were very good. Our speed was the difference in the end. My response was mostly to the fact the Appo had not been tested and to those that want to keep saying that, if Appo has not been tested then noone at any level has been tested. I'd be interested to know what a Clarke fan thinks of Goochland this year compared to a Appo team of last yr.
I am looking for a great game also but if Appo schedule didn't impress you then no schedule ever will. Their schedule this was ridiculous, as their schedule along with their speed should be the first things that stand out. Good luck Saturday.
I'm a Clarke fan, and my straight forward opinion is that LAST year's Appo team is a lot faster than this year's Goochland team. I have not seen Appo play this year, but if Appo is faster than last year, Goochland will not be able to match their speed. I'm talking overall team speed, as Goochland will certainly have one or two players that can match the speed, but overall, and from what I saw of Goochland's team speed on Friday night, they are no where near the overall speed of LAST year's Appo team.

Appomattox is the real deal and there schedule proves it, I think coachricky00 who saw the Appo vs Union game is just basing the competition theyve played off that one game since everyone has been harping on how great the West is but Union did not seem like a legit competitor. Maybe Appomattox is just that good and made Union look that bad. I will say the teams Goochland has played this year was on the weaker side but it's not like they played weak teams on purpose. Essex, Lee, Fork Union, and Buckingham are usually brutal teams to have on your schedule they all just happened to have a down year this season. BCKnights is probably the best evaluator of this game since he has seen both teams play for years.
It's getting hot in here lol! Appomattox has played the best schedule by far I think anybody has played along with Martinsville. I think Goochland is better than Martinsville who nearly beat Graham when people said they would be finished before halftime and Graham was viewed by alot as the best team outside of Appomattox at the time. I've seen both of these teams up close and believe Appomattox is better but at the same time I think Goochland is better when the competition is better. If Appomattox has a weakness which they do and I saw it in the 1st against Buckingham but we were unable to take advantage of it. I also saw it against another team this year. Goochland will attack that weakness and this will become a game. In the end Appomattox will find a way to win. Even when Goochland was down last year they came to Buckingham and put up a fight with a young team and Buckingham and Appomattox were damn near the same team. Goochland will make it a game but I believe Appomattox will win. I wouldn't be surprised by anything.
Jesus--I fell asleep and all kinds of people get on here and start talking all kinds of smack for no reason at all. Clarke fans have never got on this site and talked about blowing anyone out etc. That must have been "coach talk". First--This years Goochland team is nothing like Appo last year that Clarke played in the state final and that is no disrespect towards Goochland. Appo was/is crazy good. Almost to the likes that 2A football doesn't see. Clarke had a hard time moving the ball in the final last year (even though 14-6 goin into the 4th is hardly put away at half as one Appo fan said) but had no problem moving the ball vs. Goochland on Friday. Very easily could have been 21-21 with 7 min left. Both Clarke and Goochland are very good this year but Clarke is a step down from what they were last year. Also, I wasn't at the Union game Saturday vs. Appo but I can tell you I have a hard time believing that Union was that much better up front than last year as Clarke handled them easily in the semis but I could be wrong. Appo can make very good teams look very average. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm pulling for anyone in the East but NO ONE has seen the likes of Appo on their schedule. Just listen to the Giles fan base (who I hold very high in their football IQ) along with the Union people who are passionate but have given due respect to anyone who beats them. Clarke fans are talking firmly on the state title game last year but trust me ----Appomattox was very young and deep last year.
Clarke did handle the Bears last year on the line, however, Union really was that much better on the line this year than last year(with the exception of #50 being out against Appo).
That's a credit to Clarke. Our boys spent the entire Winter, Spring, and Summer in the weight room because of how they were handled last year.
It didn't really matter Saturday though. On offense, if the Appo runner was stuffed he simply bounced outside and ran around our line. On defense, Appo's DE/LB came off the edge so quickly that they were hitting our backs before or as they hit the LOS. Or they just stunted through the gaps.
Speed may not always kill, but it definitely did us in Saturday.
Sorry BCknights. Appo is a way different team than when they played Buckingham in the 1st of the season. Kinda hard to have any insight with Buckingham being so bad. If that's the only game ya saw of Appo this year. You might see it differently . Appo seems to get better each week.

It's not the the only game I saw this year trust me I follow this team like it was mine. Ask Advocate I call or text him every week telling him what I see them doing to their opponents before it happens. When he is like I'm kinda worried ask him what I say. I said it last year I've said it this year they wouldn't get beat. All Im saying is Appomattox has a weakness that can be exploited and I saw it week 1 and I saw it later into the season. Wouldn't dare say what I saw but I have talked to Appomattox fans/family who saw the same thing I saw and we just talked about it last week. Alot of people is basing the Goochland match up off Clarke and Appomattox last year we lost to Appomattox 14-7 in overtime last year and beat Goochland 35-21 and they were very very young. The love and hate I have for both teams cannot let me see either getting steamrolled. I don't believe it. Appomattox sub 5-6 players in and out every down, Goochland does the same. Appomattox runs well pass well, Goochland does the same and they both have 2 coaches that are arguably the best there is in 2A. Styles makes fights and I just see the styles and respect I have for these 2 as rivals being one to remember. I can see them both winning. Every year we were bigger and faster than Goochland but they knew how to negate it and I think they can make this a game. Maybe I'm talking more about Goochland out of respect but until I see it I can't see an Undefeated Goochland team just getting steamrolled I sorry. 2013 look at Essex and how they ran through the regular season and playoffs and I remember nobody outside of Goochland picking Goochland but they negated Essex size and speed and dominated the Trojans. Again I believe Appomattox wins but I really expect to see a great game from 2 great programs.
Another thing is I sugar coat alot of what I really wanna say on here because some fans can't handle the cold hard facts. I told someone outside of this board that Giles and Union would get dominated but I haven't felt that way with Goochland yet. Again I have respect for what these 2 teams have as a program and we pull for them both in Buckingham so maybe I'm blind to what really is gonna happen Saturday. Knowing Goochland I really believe Appomattox will take 4 qtrs to beat them.
Agree it's gonna be a throw down amongst two great teams. Appo is just in disbelief that anyone can give them a game. Nobody has bashed them heck most people including myself give them props for their accomplishments but say look forward to a good game. All they can say is basically Goochland sucks and I believe their opinions will change after the game. I am loyal to Goochland and pulling for them but even I know we are in for a dog fight. But to say Goochland will get stomped by some of these predictions is delusional. Then of course want to bring up who's played who that's in the past we focus on the future. Once again two great team gonna throw down Saturday and it will be fun to watch.
BCKnights iam not one to bring up a lot of the past because it really does not matter but you are talking a lot about the past can you tell us why goochland was ousted by a greensville team last season or was it just the competition as you have referred to in another post ?
Coach I dought there will be a lot of agreement on here so you are right it will all work it's self out Saturday and Then maybe some crow will be eaten !!
