It was the return of Green Run Head Basketball Coach Kenneth Harris to his old stomping grounds.
Harris, who played on GW-Danville's state title winning team in 1998, directed his Stallions to a 67-65 overtime victory over the host Eagles in a benefit game between two squads that will be ranked in the Top 10 in their respective divisions as the rankings are unveiled later this month.
Green Run placed four players in double-figures with 6'5" junior forward Shawn Sanders leading the way with 17 points. Senior 6'6" center Emonni Wood chipped in 11 points, while senior guard Damon Showers and sophomore guard Ashley James contributed 10 points apiece. Senior small forward Torey Fields scored eight points off the bench.
Cayman Wilson, a 6'2" senior guard for the Eagles, led the way with 21 points. Another 6'2" senior, Patrick Robinson, added 14 points. GW-Danville had a 36-30 advantage at half-time.
Last season, GW-Danville earned a third consecutive trip to the 4A State Final Four, losing on a buzzer-beater to eventual Champion Monacan. Meanwhile, Green Run went 23-2, falling to Hampton in the 5A-South Region quarterfinals.
