They will take a step back this year but still most likely got unbeaten and win state title. I don't know who they play out of conference but they will beat everyone in their district by 35+.
Roanoke County schools are slowly dropping Salem. I would bet Cave Spring and Hidden Valley would drop too if they were not in River Ridge
HSHS opens with Hopewell, Dinwiddie and nationally ranked Hough HS out of NC. We're supposed to play Maury in Norfolk. Not to mention Varina.
What has happened to Roanoke lately?

Seems like from 2000 to 2015 basically all greater Roanoke valley teams you can think of had 3-4 seasons of deep playoff potential.
I started A team as a seventh grader.

That is STOUT! If they can somehow sneak into the playoffs, then people can't say that they weren't battle tested.
I certainly hope that schools choosing to not field teams or schools having the foresight to realize that not fielding a team is plausible have already reached out to schools on their schedules and told them to go ahead and find someone else to take their place.
I know we don't see this really happening in the Class 4 level, but there are schools out there who have to scramble with just a few weeks heads up to try to find opponents.
If we had either a separation of activities from athletics within the VHSL and had athletics people running the athletics side of the house, then maybe we could get a drop-dead date on when schools should declare if they are going to field a team or not.
Some of it has to do with the number of kids playing. Too many distractions unless you're locked in.
Salem is not immune to that either. Last year there were only around 60-65 kids total from JV/Vars that made it through to the season. (A couple even quit well into the season from Vars) I hope that was an anomaly and not the trend for Salem football, but I've seen it as a trend in a lot of the other area schools. ALMS numbers were still pretty good last year so hopefully it was just an anomaly.
You know if that's happening at Salem with the tradition, success, and community support it has, it's probably happening worse at schools who have had a couple down years. I've seen several area teams not be able to field a full season of JV ball.
Along the same lines attendance isn't what it used to be. It's increasingly more difficult to find enough officials. Coaching vacancies are a little more difficult to fill.
Football is generally the cash cow for the athletic budget. If the football program isn't drawing that trickles down to every other sport.
From what I've seen, Brookville opens with Appomattox, then travels to Alleghany, then hosts Halifax. Opens district play with Rustburg

Hough isn’t even the best team in CLT. Dub C is insane. If it wasn’t for my wife’s birthday, I’d be at that Grimsley game at BOA. That’s gonna be part 1 of 2 (they’ll play again in December) in 8A.

Hough has a decent OL coach. He's kinda scary looking but he's alright! lolol

Not in the loop as much as I used to be But the talent level is way down if I'm being honest. I think it's gonna be a long trek back. I truthfully don't know if we'll ever see the level of talent and coaching we had. We had from '20-'23 Echols, 10, Hollywood and KC. That's two dudes on NFL contracts, a generational tailback and former ACC rook of the year. ALL the position coaches and assistants were on point. Most people don't understand how hard it is to win a ship and how hard it is to stay on top. It's rare you get that level of high end talent and the coaching and have everything align. That's just the way it is.
But, yeah, those two, Lutz and Anthony will continue to good in whatever they do. I know that for sure.
They reached out to any and everybody including St James at this point just waiting for someone to accept the game. For both JV and Varsity
Huguenot really should've went all in on scheduling Phoebus this year. Regardless of how some may feel, that's an automatic huge gate, a great test and publicity for both programs, and anytime the 804 plays the 757, it's just good for VA High School Football. Huguenot has a 4 star QB, 4 star WR, 4 star LB (signed with SMU)...It's no reason that their sole out of district game is a "ehhhhh" St. Christopher's team. That's no disrespect to Huguenot or St. Christopher's, Huguenot just isn't going to get over the hump playing this schedule they have this year.
Does Huguenot earn power rating points from playing St. Christopher? If not then it just makes the scheduling seem even stranger considering the teams they’ll compete against for a top seed would be playing in/against tougher districts and opponents
Even more shocking that they didn't try to play y'all week 1. I know these agreements are made in advance and I also know that the Springers would've preferred to play another very good C4 team alongside Phoebus and Varina. Huguenot and Highland Springs would've been huge for the 804.
I was told at the Varina game last season that was supposed to be game 1 but I guess that might’ve just been a rumor
Who did they pick up out of district? I see that they are playing Herm this which should be a dang good ball game. Also, who is the new QB Tee Jay picked up?
I’m not sure who Qb is but saw just small clips of him from the showcase at the springs and size wise he looks like a legit athlete
