HAS A #5 SEED OR LOWER EVER WON A REGION IN THE PAST DECADE?

Two thoughts come to mind.......

1) How about Galax in 2015? I know they had four losses when they won the title but I imagine they were only seeded 3rd or so in their region.

2) And how about that Blacksburg team that went all the way after a 5-5 regular season and won every game on the road on the way to the title? I ask that question not knowing if your question was just about 1-A teams...........

If this hasn't happened in the past decade... then 1A regions should take a stand and just put in 4 per region so these really bad teams just "get their participation regional trophy" and get a 50 burger served to them.

They didn't win a regional, but 8 years ago when they had two sections with 16 teams #10 3-win William Campbell beat Rappahannock handily in the first round and then beat the you-know-what out of 1-loss Mathews in the next round. Lost to Lunenburg in the next round if my memory is correct.

Just last year #8 seed W&L upset #1 Franklin. They never would have gotten the chance if only 4 teams made it. These are young kids, where 99 percent of them will never play beyond high school. So one extra game probably means a whole lot more to them. No system in place is going to be perfect and I remember hearing just as much negativity from people when the previous format was in place. When it's all said and done, the cream is going to rise to the top anyways.
