Henrico Picks Up Another

Where does he come from?
Kinda goofy announcement. Dude is a high school kid who moved, not signing a NLI. Pretty corny...
Pretty nice pick up for Henrico. I guess he'll be playing defense. They're still gonna have their hands full when it come time for their arch rival Springers!

He’s from Herm. How many is that that’s left now? A lot. How bad did yalls JV beat Herm last year? I think Varina beat them pretty handily.

I keep hearing there is talent still there which of course there is but I'm beginning to think it's going to be a rockier road than Herm fans are accustomed to in 2018.

Gotta let the kids live. If he’s happy, let him have him the little spotlight. Much rather see him excited about going to Henrico to play football then gang bangin’ and in the streets.

Totally agree. Not that I know ANYTHING about Finger, but I will add that playing football & involvement in risky behavior are not mutually exclusive. I DO agree that participation in school extra-curriculars is frequently an indicator of better behavior, though.

Me too. I know of 2 transfers. FINGER AND JENNINGS. Who else? Jennings could've/should've been at HS all along. He lived in HS while he played @ Herm.
If that is the case and he never moved when he came back to HSHS, according to VHSL rules, If there is no corresponding move, he has to sit out 365 days.

He's been back at HSHS for about 6 months now... Enrolled this season for the whole 2nd Semester. There still could have been a move too. I really don't know.

Life Christian huh... everybody thinks the world is flat on this one still.. I guess if you don’t want to believe something you won’t.

Also, anyone that doesn’t think Henrico is going to be a serious threat just isn’t watching what’s happening.

I'm still trying to figure this Life Christian Academy out. I can't get on their website, when I try to go there I get error messages. I don't cover the private schools but I would like to learn a bit more about them.

As for Henrico, I'm with you... they are going to be a threat with what they are doing. Knocking off the Springers might be out of the question but no reason to think they could be one of the top 3-4 teams in Region 5B.

I thought you said he lived in HS zone the whole time he played for Herm. So if he was there the 2nd semester, then he should be eligible in January.

I'm sure he is eligible. He was enrolled during the 2nd semester. He left Herm just after the new year. He could have moved too! That I don't know. Maybe I over spoke? I really don't know all the details, but I am 100% sure, the staff knows what they are doing! If he's eligible he will play! If he's not, he won't. Even if he should wind up not playing, HS is so loaded that it really wouldn't matter a whole lot.

You sound like an old school educator, I’m guessing you’ve worked in the school system?

Henrico County Schools offers Specialty Programs that are different at each High School. He was in a "Specialty Program" that he chose given at Hermitage. He completed the program in the 3 years he was there. Now that he lives in Highland Springs, he's at HS. This is what I was told.

Sounds reasonable.

Did Henrico ever pursue the freedom of choice option for attending high schools in the county. I know that was talked about last year. Apparently not, or it would be all we were talking about.

I think it was more of a rumored thing than a serious consideration by the school board. From a practical standpoint, why would a school system set themselves up for an imbalance in school usage. I see nothing to gain, and a possible Pandora's box of problems. And my concerns have nothing to with athletics.

Offering concentrated areas of study on different disciplines, I can see that. But, "just pick your school"? Bad idea.

Or, we can just let HSHS have their pick of county athletes? Oh wait, you already do that!!!

Just kidding, just kidding. I couldn't resist.

The Specialty Programs offer different types of career building curriculum. Each High School has a different area of study....so they do get to choose as far as that goes... which I think is a good thing!! Without investigating it, I know HSHS offers Engineering.. Henrico HS has The Arts Center. Not sure what Herm or any of the others offer.

I think that concept is common across the state in larger counties and municipalities. It just makes good sense.
