I would figure both. Heritage improved, and Lake Taylor got caught slipping. Who was at the game?

Not at game but the news down here all pre- season was Heritage NN had the players this year to be very good. Not sure about LT - did not hear much in the pre-season. But when have the players and lost last year huge, the motivation is there.

Last time I saw Heritage NN was in 2001 playing the Cougars in Dublin. Two of the Better Highschool teams I've scene personally. Heritage won 22-17 I believe, and won the State championship 42-0 that year?

Yes indeed, Heritage routed Dinwiddie in Div 5 final, though actually in 2000. Your score guess is very close, though I do think The Generals scored late TD. Same day, Deep Run, with DeAngelo Hall, erased a 28-0 deficit vs. Centerville, but missed a 2-pt conversion at the end, lost 28-26. I am from Richmond area, and though Central Region never did well, it was great to have the double-header title game here at U. of Richmond stadium (now more or less a soccer stadium, as U of R built their own.

And didn't Heritage , as a more or less fairly new school, upset Hampton at beginning of 1998 season, ending Crabbers' long winning streak (and 3 D5 state titles)? Though Hampton proceeded to win in 1998 also.

Yessir. Heritage won 14-8 in a classic 5 OT game.

Yes and it was Culpeper who upset Hampton in the 99 semifinals at darling ending the crabbers repeats. Was Phoebus who took over from there pretty much

Thats right because Pulaski beat Culpepper that year to win the region and a chance to play undefeated Heritage. BTW what happend to the RB, I believe his name was Michael Johnson? Did anyone from that team go on to play on a bigger stage?

From the Culpeper team? Culpeper won the state championship in 99. In 00 Culpeper lost to Pulaski.

Is that the Michael Johnson that went to UVA?

The same. 5* ranking that did not translate at all in college. You can make an argument for him as biggest bust in UVA history.

2000 was Michael's junior Year. During his senior year he sustained an ankle injury (so much for the wheels), that nagged him throughout college. Darryll Blackstock the tight end/defensive end on that Heritage team also played at UVA, and then (i Think) St. Louis in the Pros.

It was actually Deep Creek not Deep Run.
Thanks PHSBlue&Gold! My bad. (Deep Run wasnt even a school then, lol) Deep Creek had a good run, I believe lost to Robinson in semi-finals the next year. Didnt they have a last-minute loss to Hampton in '98 Region final? I remember reading about a heart-breaking loss that they should have had. Not sure about the year.

Oh, it was the other way around: Creek won on a controversial catch by star receiver Dee Harrell. That was Ron Curry's freshman season and apparently he and Mike Smith led a frustrated team to pretty much dominate VA the next three seasons. But the Creek squad that year was very good, just ran into a tough Patrick Henry-Ashland squad in the chip that season.
