Highland Springs has to face Princess Anne again?? They can't be excited for that match up. Princess Anne has given the Lady Springers the business the past few years in Richmond. Maybe this year will be different but highly unlikely. P A is a well oiled machine.

Ant I’ve seen the HS ladies play 7+ times this year and they are good. With the game being at Glen Allen I believe it will be closer than expected. The crowd will be a big time atmosphere as HS ladies play PA at 5:30 and HS men play Varina at 7:30. Winner for both games will play in the ship. Records are meant to be broken and this could be the year. Springs has AZ Bacot and freshman Jada Walker who has an offer from the Michigan Wolverines (right @springer76?). Don’t think Varina and Springs have ever played this late in the year in boys b-ball. Schools are separated by 5 miles and they really don’t like one another. Ant, it should be 2 great ball games.

I wish I could be there for that one. I know Varina is more of a football school. Good to see some new blood playing late in the season. I think I will go see Northside play tomorrow nite.

Varina is one of the better public school teams I've ever seen here in Virginia. They start 2 freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and 1 senior (who is their only senior contributor). They are very good. If they don't win it this year, they should next year.

Varina is well-coached and I think Coach Lacey will have his team ready to play. He, like the rest of us, knows the old adage that it's hard to beat a good team five times in one year! I'm hoping that he does beat the Springers for a fifth time and gets a chance to play for the state title I think Thursday?

If he does beat Highland Springs and wins Thursday against either Edison or Wakefield, he will be in elite company joining a group of those to win state titles as a player and coach. (Jeff Adkins from Martinsville is in that group as is Paul Hatcher-the legendary Lee coach).

Good stuff Pawfan. This will be Varina and Highland Springs 5th meeting this year.

Coach Dozier has the premiere girls program in the state of Va. I wish Martinsville had just a tad bit of what PA has. I know Godiva Hubbard is one of the best girl basketball players that I've ever seen. Coach DD seems to have that same type talent year in and year out.

Plenty of talent when you recruit kids from outside of your school zone. Can't believe Coach Scott at Ocean Lakes got checked on it, but the PA coach continues undeterred just because GBB doesn't have a big audience...

Has there been any evidence of recruiting? Coach Dozier has been coaching at PA since the 90s and his program is well known in girls basketball. Could it be that girls in the area just want to play for his program and properly enroll at PA without being recruited? I have no personal knowledge of whether he recruits or not, just curious as to your statement.

I know I have been a fan of Coach Dozier from the O'Kiesha Howard and Sharese Grant days. I know my spelling is off but I'm sure you know of whom I speak. PA is A1 in my book.

I was there playing football when he started. Around school he was personable and a no nonsense kind of guy. While in college, I ran into him and he greeted me like I was one of his former players. I was surprised he remembered me, but he expressed how proud he was of me and offered words of wisdom. I will never forget that conversation. He's a dedicated coach and mentor from my perspective.

Never been any accusations of recruiting. He is just a great coach. He does not get 5 star talent, but those young ladies play their hearts out for him and themselves. Coaching needs a few more Coach Doziers.
