Every two years based on March ADM. Also, school districts have the sole power to establish school zones or boundaries. I wouldn’t count on RH going anywhere. That’s the story I get from friends over in Virginia.

Does RH really have 1a numbers...I just know they beat the wheels off every 1a team every year. I'm not accusing them of anything I just curious how they can be this great every single year.

Less than 450 ! Numbers have been going down recently . SD and Wilson keep going up . Mostly farm kids in the Riverheads District . Lots of subdivision growth in Draft and Wilson Districts.

They are actually losing enrollment, IMO they have the best coach in the state of Virginia, he gets the most out of the talent he has, him and the most of the coaching staff have been together for like 25 years. He keeps it simple on offense and defense , only runs a handful of plays but they execute them to perfection. Not always the most talented team on the field but theyre the most disciplined, very seldom beat themselves. Unless they change the enrollment criteria they will stay in 1A for the foreseeable future. I graduated in 83 and enrollment has changed very little since then. Unless they add on to the building they cant accommodate any more students. The 4 years they were 2A they just had a larger than normal class that came thru, they were around 25 students or so over the 1A enrollment. I know there are those who say they cheat on the enrollment numbers but that is total BS, especially since the schools are funded based on enrollment, so theyre going to give up money for the school to win football games. Ye okay. When Casto leaves, rumor has it this is his last year, the dynasty will be over.

So I actually reached out to Executive Director Billy Haun back in 2017 and he was kind enough to respond.

In short, and I will quote from him: "In this email, I will try to explain the process in more simplified terms. Schools are assigned to a district, region, and class for a four-year period"

Bolding done by me.

How did I miss this post??? Gladiatorfencepatrol you are SPOT on. When PM was making their run‘s in the late 70’s early 80’s they had Bobby Williams. He was here FOREVER, and so was his staff. The kids at PM loved him and the staff. I may not make a lot of friends saying this, but its true, they played a kid because of his talent, not who his parent‘s were. They got the best out of each and every kid, they had the numbers come out. When Coach Williams left, so did the “Dynasty”. My son lives in the subdivision behind RHS, he played football, basketball, and baseball at PM. He was out walking his son when football began in August, and he walked by the practice field and stopped to watch practice. He thought it was the varsity team, it wasn’t, it was the JV team and when he made it to the varsity practice he was astonished. He called and said, “Dad, this is unreal, its like a college practice, Coach Casto is a stickler for details, the small stuff, these kids aren’t fancy, they aren’t the most athletic, they just line up and run the same play, over & over & over & over, until they run it right. He does nothing fancy, and everyone knows their role, its a MACHINE!”

Sadly, in a lot of schools today, it isn’t about winning, its about parents sitting in the stands like its a cocktail party, not a football game. I had a parent tell me when PM got beat by Riverheads earlier this year, that they couldn’t understand why we scheduled ”them”, I told them this, at the end of the day, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best, and IF, you make it to the Championship game, granted anything can happen, Riverheads could lose, but, IF you make it there, guess who will be waiting for you at the end of the road in Salem? RIVERHEADS!

PM had the same problem when Williams was here, you heard the gossip, oh they are cheating, they cook the books, they recruit. Jealousy is a wicked wench!

I like what NC did this time. They have four classes divided into East and West divisions

NC has always been east west, they just went from 8 champions to 4 this year. They also don't assign east west until the teams make the playoffs then make the separation based on geography. A school like Reidsville some years will go east and some years west. Same for a school like Richmond County.

I think coaching shows the greatest impact at the A level. Here in region 1A K&Q is a perfect example. They were historically bad for a long time. They made a change and got a couple of pretty solid coaches the last 3 years and they've been on a roll.
