John Marshall’s Schedule

Highland Springs is sponsored by Nike as Bethel is sponsored by Reebox and Wilmington Laney is sponsored by Jordan.. Both JM’s basketball teams (girls and boys) wear Adidas.
Is there a difference in “sponsored by” and “wear”? Just asking because of the way it’s worded in your response and I have no idea the difference. Thanks again.

I don't think you are the sharpest tool in the shed are ya? Nobody is arguing legality. They are arguing right vs wrong. Once again, not one person on this Board can answer the following question with the answer NO when asked......"Does JM have an unfair or "added" advantage in its ability to bring in players with it's AAU connection compared to 99 percent of other Class 2 schools?"

You know and I know, that as the old saying goes....if a gun was to your head and you had to answer truthfully, what would the answer be? The answer to the above question would be YES.

The argument is lost with the above question when the answer YES is given because you have to admit they have an unfair advantage. They do what concrete sleeple do who have the mental capacity of an 8th grade child. They use fallacy, divert, move the goalposts to statements such as," It's legal," or they bring race, LOL, into the equation, or they reference College NIL deals which is apples and oranges compared to High School. In summary, you've lost the argument.
The same cats like to cry when people bring race into the equation but the undertones in the posts are why they’re called racially motivated. Nobody is trying to be “woke”. Fact, you and many others villainized Ty White and the coach up at Hayfield (not you but some cats that liked your posts) and compared them to some vile people. A coach in NoVA even compared Hayfield’s coach to a child predator simply based off of “cheating allegations”. You compared Ty White to Ted Bundy.. You’re a smart man. W&M grad and I’ve followed your posts for years and enjoy them. It’s easy to call us out for bringing race into the equation but let’s also look at why?

You and I both agree that AAU is playing a big factor on these high school basketball programs’ success. If you ask me, high school ball is trash because of this AAU phenomenon. Back in the day, you’d have maybe 100 AAU teams in America and they were all highly competitive. Now there’s at least 7 in areas like Richmond, Tidewater, & Northern VA alone.. That’s 21 AAU teams in the state and we haven’t even talked about the 2-3 in Roanoke, Danville, Lynchburg, etc , each.. Too many hands in the pot and too many wannabe coaches out here. AAU is fine and dandy if P4/pro development is taking place but I’m old school and like team camps and high school summer tournaments where it’s helping teams get better and developing the younger guys for in game experience.

How do you think Radford, Martinsville, Brunswick, Lee Staunton, etc became state powerhouses? Numerous kids to big time schools? Dang sure wasn’t because of AAU!

1. There were absolutely ZERO racial overtones and YOU brought race into the equation. YOU did. Is this the point where I have to start listing all of black friends in order to "not for sure be a racist?" What about my wife who is half black by the way and my mother in law (who is black) who has been like a mother to me for 25 years. Would that matter? Hell no. It wouldn't because some of you guys bring race into any issue just like it's a muscle memory or default. It's almost like you've been trained to go to "race" when you disagree with someone. For the love of God, give it a rest. It's so old.

2. Want to know why I never comment on the Hayfield situation or Palmer at Graham who also gets accused of recruiting? Because they are doing nothing wrong. I am not talking about "Legal vs Illegal." I'm talking about Right and Wrong.

3. Palmer at Graham and the guy formerly at Freedom built their programs WITHOUT an UNFAIR advantage or opportunity. They did well. They won. What do kids in the area want to do? They want to play for a winner, so kids want to play for them and they win more. Same thing happened at Radford and Martinsville back in the day with H. Hall in Hoops.

4..Ty White is Different. The guy at Liberty is Different. They have an UNFAIR opportunity/an advantage over 99 percent of their peers because the AAU connection at JM brought kids there and continues to bring kids there. At Liberty, it's just straight up money and literally a private school playing public which is essentially corruption in plain view as far as I'm concerned. I think what JMs AD and White are doing is dishonest and a form of cheating. Liberty is borderline criminal and more than just "right and wrong." I'm no lawyer, but they are bordering on illegal IF..IF the VHSL had a set of balls.

5. For AAU, it keeps kids on the court, working on their skills, puts them around their peers and it keeps them out of trouble across the country whether city or rural or wherever. I think it's an absolutely AWESOME thing. I've just said what I've always thought about AAU. Don't allow the AAU coach to coach HS or Junior High and it fixes 95 percent of the issues.

6. My problem with Ty White is as follows. He's still in Class 2 and that tells me, there's a character flaw there. Something is wrong. This bothers me actually MORE than the AAU connection. Same for Liberty. If you have an unfair advantage and the Coach at Liberty and Ty White both deep down, they know they do, and if you have that unfair advantage, for the love of God, have some internal decency, some character, a conscience, some kind of self reflection to rectify the problem by playing up.

7. I'm done with this thread. Time for me to let it go. I've said what I wanted to say about JM regarding whether I think what they are doing is right and/or fair. I stand by that point of view and have clearly given reasons to support my Opinion, just like everyone else has an opinion for or against. No need to beat a dead horse.

Just so everyone knows - “Hokie1Pokie” is actually “Fairlawncat” posting under a different name.

It’s not funny. Not really sure what he’s trying to accomplish by keeping it up. It’s just kind of sad.

This isn’t about basketball per se. It’s about a public school being used as a cover for a private school type program. Doesn’t matter the sport.

There has been many complaints about LCA, mainly football, but all their programs in general.

The Hayfield football “scandal” was widely criticized. Just play by the rules, or at least the spirit of the rules, and all will be good.

I wasn’t speaking about LCA. The school I’m talking about uses the country roads to get to the top!

If you are referring to Graham football (?), I doubt anybody thinks they could beat Maury or LCA or Salem. Isn’t it usually 50/50 between them and Union? If they are getting transfers, they need to consult with JM on how to do it better!
