Kecoughtan took a big step in securing the #8 seed in the Region 5B playoffs with a 18-10 win over Woodside. Senior Knowel Smith scored two touchdowns for the Warriors who improved to 3-5 on the season.

Kecoughtan took the opening kickoff and drove the length of the field with a drive that consumed almost 10 minutes off the clock. Smith ended the 17-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run and the Warriors led 6-0.

The Warriors scored again the next time they had the ball thanks to a topped blocked punt that resulted in a 4-yard loss. Smtih sprinted to the endzone on an outside run to give the Warriors a 12-0 lead they took into halftime.

Meanwhile, the Warriors defense limited the Wolverines to only 38 yards of offense in the 1st half including one 1st down.

Woodside finally got on the scoreboard late in the 3rd quarter when sophomore Thomas VanDusen nailed a 47-yard field goal with room to spare. Kecoughtan added another touchdown on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Kellen LaRoche to receiver Juh’saun Credle with 7:50 remaining.

The Warriors were called for a celebration penalty then kicked the ball out of bounds which game Woodside a 1st down at the Kecoughtan 20-yard line. A personal foul helmet hit on a Wolverines completed pass led to a great effort from Antonio Patterson who scored on a 17-yard touchdown reception to make it a one score game.

Woodside got the ball back after a couple of Jerel Butler stuffs led to a 3-and-out but Kecoughtan held on 4th-and-2 and ran out the clock. Junior linebacker Keith Cherry and freshman Isaiah Blackwell teamed up for the key stop.
