Kellam 3 Nansemond River 2




The Kellam Knights won their first Eastern Regional title since 2002 with a come from behind 3-2 win over Nansemond River. The Knights, who finished the regular season as the #1 team in the Virginiapreps.Com Bakers Dozen Poll, improved their record to 24-2 while winning their 15th straight game.

Sam Sinnen relieved starting pitcher Robert Reaume in the 4th inning and picked up his second win in the tournament. Sinnen struckout six while reaching 91 on the radar gun.

The Knights scored all their runs in the fifth inning. Senior Kyle Porter led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a bunt single by Kyle Morrison. Kurt Sinnen followed with a single to load the bases and Knights tied the game on a sacrifice fly to center by Nick Walker. Outfielder Christian Vylonnis followed with a single for a 2-1 lead. An infield single off the glove of starting pitcher Zach Rice plated another run.

Nansemond River cut the lead to one after Kyle Moore led off the sixth with a double and came around to score on a single by Colin O'Brien that made the score 3-2. The Warriors threatened in the seventh when Travis Johnson singled and reached second on a stolen base. However, Sinnen got Brandon Lowe to hit into a fielders choice and he gotMoore to ground out to short for the final out.

It was the second straight Regional final loss for the Warriors who will travel North to face the Northwest Region champion C.D Hylton on Tuesday. Kellam will face Northwest runner-up Freedom at Old Dominion.
