For the second week in a row, the Woodberry Forest football team’s game was decided on the final play of the game.

This time, however, the Tigers left the field victorious following a 31-28 Prep League victory over St. Christopher’s on Saturday in Richmond.

Willis Thompson connected on a 28-yard field goal as time expired to give Woodberry Forest (1-1, 1-0) its first victory of the season.

QB Ben Locklear threw three touchdown passes and run for another score to lead the Tigers. The junior scored from a yard out to open the scoring and then hit Dequece Carter on a 60-yard scoring strike to put Woodberry Forest up 14-0 midway through the second quarter.

The Saints responded with two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the first half to tie the game. QB Patrick Routsis hit Will Hayes on a 40-yard scoring strike to put St. Christopher’s on the board. The quarterback added a 1-yard run with 26 seconds left in the half to even the score at 14-14 at intermission.

Woodberry regained the lead in the third quarter as Locklear hit Kyle Bilodeau on a 12-yard strike for his first touchdown reception of the season for a 21-14 lead.

St. Christopher’s answered three minutes later on Nigel Green’s 18-yard touchdown grab from Routsis to tie the game at 21-21 with 4:32 left in the quarter.

The Saints took their first lead with 11:51 left in the game on Roustis’ 53-yard scoring strike to Hayes for a 28-21 advantage.

The lead would be short-lived, as Carter hauled in a 78-yard scoring strike with 11:08 left to tie the game at 28-28.

The score remained deadlocked until Woodberry embarked on a 12-play, 72-yard drive that resulted in Thompson’s game-winning kick.

Rhys Logan rushed for 62 yards to lead the Tigers. Bilodeau finished with six catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Routsis threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns to lead St. Christopher’s. Jordan Hartley rushed for 54 yards on 12 carries. Hayes caught five passes for 124 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Caleb Hodges led the team with eight tackles. John Harris had six tackles, including two for loss and a sack.
