Liberty vs Woodgrove will a heck of a game to start the season. It should be the 4A Game of the Week. Woodgrove could be Liberty's toughest opponent of the season except possibly Courtland. I'd be surprised to see Liberty go worse than 8-2 with that schedule and 10-0 is a distinct possibility.

The only reason I would disagree on 10-0 would be because Liberty will be hit hard this year with graduation more so than usual. I think 10-0 would be very aggressive prediction for Liberty although they will certainly be a usual tough out. I got them at 7-3 this year, not a bad year, but for Libertys standards not good. Dropping Sherando, Broad run, Mountain View, and Handley didn't make Liberty's schedule any tougher this year , however they will need a easier schedule to make the playoffs this year.

they will be playing 3 good battlefield dist. teams. they may get beat by all three. king George was young last year and along with a good jv team will be much better this year. may be lucky to be 5 and 5!

Woodgrove will be beat Liberty soundly next year. Liberty wont be the team it has been past two years. I look for 7-3 at best for Liberty. They will lose to Woodgrove, Courtland, and possibly Eastern View or Chancellor or King George.

I've noticed a common denominator in some of the threads over the las few months. Woodgrove seems to get a lot of respect for this coming season. Please tell me about them. Do they have a lot of starting or experienced players returning? Do they have a QB or something that can put the team on his back? Extra good defense? Great Coach?

I know nothing about them, but would like to learn. Thanks,

DP

They are in Western Loudoun County, the talent pool keeps moving west, Briar woods, broad run, Stonebridge, Tuscarora is farthest west. Next Woodgrove, they have maybe two years left in 4A, the last year they should be at about 1700 or 1800 enrollment before the Vhsl catches up and moves them to 5A. They have a solid coaching staff, and always have athletes. Not saying they will make a run in 4A, but they would be a good candidate from the North half of the state.

I think you're right I felt like they had a good opportunity to make a run like Broad Run and Briar Woods when I saw them 2 years ago. They have had a number of D1 athletes in just the short amount of time the school has been in existence and a big roster that makes them deep. The QB-WR combo they had this year was outstanding.

I get what everyone is saying here, but Liberty was a State Semifinal team last year, and has back their best offensive weapon in Aaron Walters. I think best case scenario Liberty is 10-0, worst case scenario 8-2.

Woodgrove is probably the toughest opponent on this schedule, and that might account for one of their losses, other toss up is Courtland, but again I will put my money on the smart athletic play of Walters at the helm. The final toss up will be Eastern View, but I have to go on history here folks, everytime I have seen Eastern View play the Eagles, its Undisciplined (EVHS) v. Discipline (LHS), I think another goes to the Eagles.

As I see it below, Eagles finish 9-1, could be 10-0.

08/21/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Brooke Point H S (Scrim.) ***Longtime Coach Tommy Buzzo against his former team, even though it is a scrimmage will be nice to see him on the field along side the Eagles again.

09/04/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Woodgrove H S-- Toss up, worst case scenario L

09/11/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (H) King George H S--Win

09/18/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (H) Chancellor H S-- Win

09/25/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Kettle Run H S-- not the rivalry its been in the past, KR graduated a lot of talent, and have a new coach/ possibly system to learn. Liberty throttles KR this year. Win

10/02/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Courtland H S--Toss up Possible second loss, but I give the edge to Walters, this one is a Win.

10/09/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Manassas Park H S-- Win

10/16/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (H) Culpeper County H S--Win

10/23/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (A) @ Eastern View H S--Win, we will see it as we have in the past years, no discipline for EV, game goes to Eagles.

10/30/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (H) Brentsville District H S-- Win

11/06/2015 Fri.
7:00 PM (H) Fauquier H S--Win

Chancellor is back on the rise. I see them beating Liberty, but their biggest concern should be penalties.

Liberty did lose a ton of talent to graduation - but they do return the Walters kid who is a machine! But despite Footballdad's optimism - Liberty is going to get throttled by Woodgrove and Courtland. Here is what I have:

@ Woodgrove H S-- Liberty loses big.

(H) King George H S--I know nothing about King George.

(H) Chancellor H S-- I know nothing about Chancellor.

(A) @ Kettle Run H S-- Liberty wins big.

(A) @ Courtland H S-- Liberty loses big.

(A) @ Manassas Park H S-- Really? This game is going to happen? Liberty big.

(H) Culpeper County H S-- I know nothing about Culpeper.

(A) @ Eastern View H S-- This will be interesting - I feel Eastern View is in the same boat as Liberty with losing talent. I am going with Eastern View.

(H) Brentsville District H S-- Once again - Really? Liberty big.

(H) Fauquier H S-- New coach is going to help Fauquier win games - just not immediately. Liberty Wins.

I will help you, I will go with Liberty beats King George. Close game against Chancellor is a toss up. mannasas Park could beat Culpepper, both teams are horrible in 4A. I think Liberty loses by 2 Td's plus to Woodgrove, because they are going to be young. Not because Woodgrove is special this year. EV game is probably a toss up , but I will agree they will probably win at home. Courtland game is a no brainer.

I am with you on all of this Hamspear - but I do question whether or not Chancellor is a toss up. I do not know a lot about Chancellor - but they did get beat down by an awful Millbrook team last year so it will take a huge improvement to compete with Liberty - even if Liberty has been hit hard by graduation.

Really hard to judge at this time. You have to go with the programs. Liberty has been a physical, in your face team for a decade. That's the culture. Expect them to reload.....again.

Other thoughts. Woodgrove plays in that NOVA area with Briar Woods, Tuscarora, Broad Run and others. IMO, currently the toughest area in VA to play in. Loudoun County. This is a very tough win for Liberty. Courtland has been rolling with the program and has real talent to back them up. LB can win this game because they play smash mouth but it won't be easy. I believe Chancellor will be far better than anyone expects but HoosFan has a point. Can they stop the penalties and turnovers that have haunted them for the last four years? I cannot recall a team that beats themselves more than the opposition. That's who the Chargers have been. EV will be interesting. They are run and gun. Kube is gone and was most of the offense but Hatfield knows how to make yards. Been that way since he arrived. They may not be able to play much D but they will put up TD's. Lot's of them.

Point is, it's too early. At this time, go with the programs. LB will be a tough out for anyone. History bears that out. They will bring it. That's just how it is. Folks that think 10 - 0 is possible is fine but not realistic. Impossible is also not realistic.

Culpeper will be a lot better than most think. They will have a shot at going 5-5 atleast this year.

Little late to the thread, but I catch several Liberty (Bealeton) games a year and just wanted to throw in my two cents (certainly not worth more).

Liberty will understandably take a step back in 2015. The seniors for the 2014 team were a special group. There are many holes to fill but FootballDad42 is 100% correct, Walters made that team run and will do the same this year. Don't know his college options but I would imagine it could be lengthy if not for his size. I really enjoy watching that kid play. Other good talent returns as well so getting to the playoffs and winning at least one is expected.

7-3 is realistic, 10-0 is a huge stretch. Coach Finnerty and his staff will have had to work a number of small miracles for that result. Agree with previous posts: Woodgrove, Courtland, Eastern View, Chancellor, and King George (in descending order) will all present big challenges to the Eagles. EV in particular, while yes, undisciplined in the past, I think breaks through with a win against Liberty in 2015. With a number of high-quality returning players who have bought into Coach Hatfield's system, the Cyclones should be considered the favorite in the Evergreen.

NovaKane8, not sure if you were aware of district realignment but 3A Manassas Park and Brentsville are now must-schedule for the Fauquier and Culpeper schools.

I'll be at the scrimmage with Amherst and we should know a little more after that.

And yes, benefit game with Brooke Point will be fun with Coach Buzzo on the other side. I think he already has that school on the rise but I looked up their regular season schedule: absolutely brutal! Hopefully, the Eagles can keep it competitive unlike last year's benefit with another 5A program: Massaponax.

I don't see anything here as set in stone. The season has not even begun. But here's something I know. Liberty has not had a losing season since 2000. They have not had a bad season since 2000. Nothing under .500 and they don't play poopies. That have not been spanked by anyone since 2000. They have been in the hunt every year since 2000. The program works. Doesn't matter what year it is or who graduated. There are no easy wins against Liberty and no one wins without a real fight. If you beat Liberty, they will make you earn it. Can't ask for anything more from a program.

Can't really disagree about Chancellor. As Bill Parcells said, "you are who your record says you are". You get beat by MillBrook and Spotsy, you suck. That's just all there is to it.

Now, I believe in Coach Oliver. Damn, he was 4A Coach of the year several years ago and had been doing this a long time. I WANT to believe. But at this point, you just have to get it done. GL to the Chargers in 2015.
