BEDFORD -- Ethan Payne hit a stick-back with 5.5 seconds remaining to give the Minutemen a win over the Golden Eagles in seven overtimes. The seven overtimes ties a VHSL record originally set in 1969 and last occurred in 1987. There have been a total of four games to go seven overtimes.

The only points scored in the seven extra periods were five by each team in the second overtime and two points by Liberty in the seventh. In the second overtime Liberty went up by two points with 1.8 seconds to play, but Staunton River completed a length-of-the-court pass and Jarred Heron made a desperation shot to extend the game.

The Minutemen were led by Raheem Anthony with 21 points and Payne with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

For the Golden Eagles, Kalip Jones knocked down 17 points and Josh Thomas added 15.

Wow! I wonder what the total game time was from tipoff to final buzzer?

Did they basically play for one shot in most of the overtimes?
