Lucas Dowell (former Chilhowie TE) killed serving a warrant

Very sad story. Prayers to his family, friends and coworkers.

Very sad. Saw it on the local news. Seemed to be just a good, solid football player that is the backbone of so many small rural teams. Then goes to college not for sports but to get an education and better himself only to lose his life in the line of duty as a state trooper. I see and hear so much negativity on the media about police work. I realize that some bad press is warranted. But does anyone want to step in this young mans shoes and take up his job? I feel for the family. I also feel for our society.

Agreed. I can never understand why anyone would want to try to escape from the police, avoid capture, get into a shootout, or anything of that nature. What makes them think they will really get out of the situation and be able to go on about their lives?

Of course the key is to not engage in the criminal behavior in the first place. This young fellow did sound like a good guy and it is so sad that his life ended this way.

I worked as a 911 dispatcher for 8 years and I have a brother who has been a police officer for 14 years. There will always be bad apples in a bunch, but there are way way way more who aren't. Those people put their lives on the line every single day and each day it's not guaranteed that they'll return home to their families. It's a job that not many could honestly say that they could do.
