The MV player involved in the scrimmage incident with Salem on Friday has been suspended 3 games according to a reliable source.
Hold back on your criticisms for a few more days please. There is more to the story than has been publicly revealed. It doesn't excuse the behavior, but the information puts a little more perspective on the aftermath.
Honesty, everyone, give it more time to play out. I was just like you, Danville. Off with his head. But after I heard the rest of the story, I totally changed my opinion. It doesn't excuse the behavior, I'm not saying that at all. The young man deserves the punishment that was decided upon by the school. And he has a tough senior year ahead of him, trying to get past this. When you hear the details, primarily immediately after the incident, you will temper your disgust. Trust me, please.
No thats where you are wrong, don't kick him off the team for that mistake everyone deserves another chance, look at the NFL!!!If true, then that's disappointing. IMO he should've been released from the team.
YES!Even being a MV fan i said the same thing after first watching the video, to kick him off the team. I still dont know the whole story, but after talking to a coach I know this is a kid that really regrets what he did, and football wasnt all that was on his mind. I think 3 games is good enough.
Thank you!!Again, I say there's more to the story when something like this happens. Everyone else wanted the hatchet. Let the Coach and school handle it and move on.
Agreed, the taunting, trash talking, show boating etc. are becoming more prevalent. But only because the officials allow it. If they'd start flagging it, it would cease.I reviewed the video a few times, the actions were very uncalled for!! But with that said we have to remember that we are talking about a kid here. We all made mistakes we regret in athletics in our teenage years, but for most of ours, probably wasn't caught on camera and blasted on social media as it is today for the whole world to see, and for Adults to criticize on a message board. The kid made a mistake, I'm not excusing his actions at all, he does need to face a harsh penalty for his actions. But with that said he is a young adult/kid who made a mistake, and probably regrets what he has done to his senior year. I'm ok with the penalty the school came down with. I'm glad to see the school AD and coach make a swift and quick decision and not let this drag out for longer. I know a lot of parents and players on the MV team, for the kids I know they are very good kids from good families.
With that said, I've watched Magna Vista play for a long time now, since the school was opened. These last 5-7 years I've really seen a big change in the attitudes and discipline of players on the field. Seems to be a lot more trash talking after plays,a lot of show boating, and taunting of other teams, that normally was nipped in the bud very hard in practice ( IF any remember the Bateman Hills, or the Beckelheimer Boards) I used to watch practices and any player out of line paid for his actions. It is very uncharacteristic if you were familiar with the MV teams of old. Coach Favero has done a great job with the program, and has rebuilt it from its few down years. But Magna Vista has a very long tradition of great football teams that were very successful dating to the early 90's, football at MV wasn't started in '09. These coaches and players need to remember the history of the program and they represent a community with a rich football tradition with a lot of former players attending every Friday night. They reached the highest level last year winning the state championship, and I know the alumni are very proud of those players and are looking forward to a hopeful repeat this season. Let this situation be a teaching tool to not only just the player who committed the act but the whole team. Represent the community with good character, and GO OUT AND WIN ANOTHER TITLE!!! GO WARRIORS!!
Should have been released to send a strong message, he could have broken that kids backIf true, then that's disappointing. IMO he should've been released from the team.
The rest of the story? I don't think the kid should be punished outside the guidelines of the VHSL or his coach either, but, the rest of the story? What the heck are you talking about? I watched the scrimmage. There is no rest of the story. Unless you're referring to the Salem player who got stomped in the small of his back missing a full week of practice. Or the possibility that that player could have suffered much worse injury, lacerated kidney, lacerated spleen, or God forbid spinal injury.Or are you implying as did one of this board's self proclaimed all knowing gurus, that he'd never seen an incident like this that wasn't provoked. That trophy case dumb ass statement is beyond belief. The provocation came when the MV player got his butt moved off the ball by a smaller Mule. That was the provocation. To imply otherwise is simply stupid!Hold back on your criticisms for a few more days please. There is more to the story than has been publicly revealed. DP has a little more information that he's not at liberty to share currently. It has nothing to do with Hood provoking, he didn't, it has to do with the aftermath of the incident. #69's remorse directly after the play for instance. Whatever the information it doesn't excuse the behavior and there have to be consequences for his actions. There will be disagreement about the severity of the punishment, but I think 3 games is the minimum punishment in this case and since this is apparently way out of character for this individual, that factored into the decision. The rest of the story? I'll accept that Mike. What I won't accept is the implication by the Village expert that Hood could have provoked the incedent. I trust Favaro to do the right thing. I agree Mule, DP isn't implying anything about provocation on Hood's part. Just the aftermath of a bad decision by a 17 year old kid. Favero has been really good for MV. I saw a few things that I didn't like about player's attitudes, but some of that was the unbridled enthusiasm of being able to hit somebody with a different jersey on! I think their performance showed they have work to do, bullseye is on their back now.I'll accept that Mike. This is way out there. You must be a woman or were the last chosen when growing up. He gave a love tap. He was wrong. He was disciplined. It's why girls don't play the game. Time to move on like men. Calm down dude he was just making a statement.Shaun's,
You don't know a damned thing about me.you made a stupid statement about provocation and I called you on it. I played the game I've coached the game for forty years and I don't hide behind a friggin computer and spout inane BS about kids. Lee Eubanks

No, what he's doing DUDE is making assumptions and smart a$$ remarks about me. He is the very reason I curtailed my participation on this board. He professes to be an expert on everything and in reality he doesn't know squat. Have a good one ol boy!Calm down dude he was just making a statement.
Thanks guys, for coming to my defense. I think you understand what I said. And what I can't say has nothing at all to do with the young man from Salem. I, like everyone, am extremely glad the the boy had not been injuried worse than he was. As vicious and brutal as the stomp was, it leaves everyone with the same thought, the MV young man should be punished to the max, and then some more. I was right there with you. I felt the same way.
I then had a unique opportunity to have insight shared with about each phase of the aftermath. And it made me rethink everything. Did this boy deserve to be blackballed from the only thing that was basically positive in his life? Was this to be his final act on a high school football team that was more family than most of what he knows outside of school? Wouldn't it serve a better purpose to lay out the punishment for what he did, put requirements on him to make amends for his action, and be sure that he understood how seriously he could have injuried the young man from Salem? You have to know that it was thoroughly explained to him how that one stupid reaction could have put that boy in a wheel chair for life.
Is there anyone who has not done something incredibly stupid in their life? Have you never been given a chance to make things right? Has no one ever sat you down and helped you understand what your actions did, and how the outcome could have had tragic consequences? Have you never done anything for which you were truly remorseful? Don't you think this kid has been beaten down enough? Are we doing him any good by belaboring this story? He is a kid for Christ's sake.
Somebody ask the young man from Salem what else he thinks should be done about what happened? He has handled it with a lot more class than many adults have. Put it to rest guys, put it to rest!
Many many years ago my best friend Billy Miles former head coach at Franklin County and O guru at Salem for twenty some years, AND I played together at Andrew Lewis high school. When he was at Salem he gave his O linemen the moniker Mules because of their work ethic and ability to get the job done. We were talking one day and I said Billy we're just a couple of old Mules. I was a little too young to retire after 30 years in construction sales but I was really tired of living in hotels and running thru airports so I decided to make a hobby, cooking, into a living. I opened a hot dog shop here in Salem. Best hot dogs in the valley, chicken bog, tomato gravy, hoppin' john, pan fried cornbread and NC style pulled pork BBQ. It was called The Ol Mule Hot Dog Company OMHDCHey Lee, what does your nickname stand for? It is something about hot dogs you used to sell or something like that isn't it? You or someone else told me a couple of years ago, but I have forgotten. Thanks.
The Salem kid was on offense. He didn't get blocked he was blocking and doing a pretty good job of it!Thank you but of course because it has happened to a kid from you know where the outrage is at the MAX. He could have killed the kid, he could have lacerated a vital organ, he cold have done this or that, but thank God he didn't do any of that. I've seen the video it was a terrible play in my opinion he blocked the kid to the ground so there wasn't a need to stomp his back. The kid will have to live with this the rest of his season and is probably remorseful for his poor judgment in this matter. But of course the outrage is at an all time high. It's happened the kid has been punished and its time to move on.
One thing that I read that made me scratch my head was the fact that in describing how this kid has to be awesome because he came from a single parent home and his mom is a great lady. Really?? Maybe that isn't commonplace in the Salem community but 90% of my kids are from single parent homes and some of them are form NO PARENT homes meaning they are raised by their grandparents, aunts, uncles, or whoever. I doubt that kid wanted that info posted on a message board.
Of course he did a good job at it he's from Salem. I got you I didn't see the whole play I saw the play from the kid from Magna Vista blocking and the Salem kid hitting the ground so I "assumed" he was on offense. My fault, but even still the Magna Vista kid pushed him on the ground or whatever play over. Obviously he got blew up on the play and didn't like it. Come back the next play and don't allow it to happen again. The Salem kid was on offense. He didn't get blocked he was blocking and doing a pretty good job of it!
Don't quite understand the "of course" remark. I simply stated the Salem kid did a good job. Yeah he was on the ground. That happens even on a good block sometimes. If you think I'm one of those " Salem does nothing wrong and everything right" fans you're mistaken. I watched the whole scrimmage not just a 20 second excerpt.Of course he did a good job at it he's from Salem. t got you I didn't see the whole play I saw the play from the kid from Magna Vista blocking and the Salem kid hitting the ground so I "assumed" he was on offense. As I have stated before, I trust Coach Favero to handle this. My comment about what could have happened was in response to the board guru's flippancy in addressing a serious incedent. Nothing more.

Oh, you actually are a woman. No problem with that. All due respect and now understandable that we will continue to get emotional, drama ridden responses from you where objectivity and reason are unknown functions. Be well and Best of luck in 2015.It's impressive to see this type of faux-alpha male posting from someone your age.
Real talk, you're a creepy dude. You're an OOS transplant with no vested interest in these schools or players and you make the most tryhard, overly analytical posts on the boards. You didn't go to the schools, you don't have kids playing in the system, just go to the games and have fun and stop being that weird, creepy dude that always seems to emerge on these boards. HTH.
Mike or someone had told me most of the meaning once before, but never the whole story. That's neat. Did you sell the business or just shut it down? It hasn't been too terible many years ago since it closed, has it? I sold the business DP. I used to post on here all the time. I 've been posting since the board was created. You know, funny you should ask about that store on 460. What is the name of the store on 460 with the tree growing through the roof? I finally tried one of their hot dogs back in the spring. It was plenty hot, but nothing special in my book. Someone told me the elderly lady behind the counter was the wife of the original couple that started the place?
Anyway, thanks for sharing. DP
