West Point and Clarke County will now play this year. Manassas Park was on Clarke's schedule. Manassas Park's student demographic data shows 52 percent Hispanic and 8 percent Asian. As the trend of demographics in many parts of the country favoring soccer continues to grow, the numbers for football at some of these Northern VA schools will continue to drop.

This is less likely for the 6A schools because of the absolute size, 2500ish kids and they will still get kids out. CTE and concussions has been discussed and certainly is a factor, and to some extent, video game addiction, and football being nearly a year-round sport, but in some places where there are growing Hispanic populations that often favor soccer, this is playing a huge part.

Around here (Shenandoah Valley) soccer is a spring sport. Why couldn't these athletes play both sports and it would seem like each one would help strengthen the other.

Just looked at West Point's pre-season roster. 13???? Student body size is 266. That's a 3 hour drive if I'm driving, my guess is it's gonna be a 4 hour haul by bus. Did Charles City cancel their season because that's who West Point was scheduled to play the date Clarke is playing them now.

Yes. Charles City has canceled football and volleyball this year. West Point has more than 13, afaik, but not many more.

The same thing happened with baseball a few years ago at MP. Started the season with barely a roster and canceled the season about a quarter the way in. Soccer and wrestling are King there I believe. But it wasn’t that long ago that MP won the state in football one year and was runner up the next.

That's what makes this so tragic. I could almost understand if Craig County or Rye Cove gave up football. I'd hate to see it, but I could understand it. But a program that has competed at the highest level not even fielding a team just 12 years later doesn't make sense.
